Perk Week — you would have to be a part of it — to believe it. . .

Lamar Hall Loses Roof On Friday, January 17, Pearl River Junior College suf- fered damage caused by one of the worst rain storms in recent years. Lamar Hall, the men ' s ath- letic dormitory, lost part of its roof causing six rooms to be flooded. Awnings in the front of the new gymnasium were blown away and a couple of cars had their windshields smashed by flying objects. The electricity was off, school was let out at 1:45, and a few girls cried. Pearl River was rather lucky, though. Nearby McComb suffered eight dead and several injured when tornadoes swept through. All in all, it was an experience few cared to go through again.

PERK WEEK Although practical jokes, water fights, and clowning around are an occasional part of living in the dorms at Pearl River, during Perk Week ttiese infrequent pranks turn into five days of f ull scale war. This is the only week of the year that people are allowed to give each other baths on campus, that the tu-tu bird comes out of hiding, and that a choo-choo train goes around the Administration Building. As soon as darkness fell each night, balloons, baggies, and any other container that would hold water were brought out and war was waged. It did no good to take a bath until just before you got into bed because you were sure to get soaked several more times before you even dried off. The tu-tu bird made a trip to the River just to celebrate the annual occasion. You certainly won ' t find him in any bird watchers ' guide because he ' s the only one of his kind, lie ' s native to the third floor Huff Hall, and his plummage is quite similar to cotton underwear. A human choo-choo train complete with flashing red lantern made its way around the campus on Thursday night of Perk Week. Its course was rather erratic, but its destination was a victory that just wasn ' t there.
