The dedication was held on February 1 and was an occasion that will be rem- embered for some time on this campus. The program consisted of a short dedication ceremony, three basketball games, and music by the college orchestra. The gym is one of the most modern in the state. The front portion of the building has a ticket booth, concession booth, storage rooms, offices, and a physical education class room. PEARL RIVER HARDWOOD MAGICIANS These maroon and gold clad hit parade stars represented Pearl River Junior College during the 1949 basketball season, making an excellent showing against all competition in the fast -Mississippi junior college conference. In the usual order, first row, it ' s Glenn Perkins, Picayune; Jim Watts, Improve; Neldon Cochran, Columbia; Joe Smith, Picayune; Glenn Daley, Carson; J. C. Stewart, Picayune; Jack Morris, Sylacauga, Ala.; Gene Watts, Improve; Wyatt Broom, Bass- field; Dennis Ladner, Savannah; Hoover Garrett, Slidell, La.; top row: Coach Wood- row Daley; Fred Haimon, Fox Lake, 111.; Roland Ladner, Sellers; Robert Pace, Prentiss; Lou Campos, New Orleans; Bobby Ware, Millry, Ala. Coach Daley was making his first start here during the ' 49 season. He was an All-State performer here in 1935, returning this season to take the reins as cage mentor. Dennis Ladner, Jim Watts, and Robert Pace were returning men from last season ' s team to form the nucleus of the 1949 team. The remainder of the 49 group returns next season to make Pearl River one of the teams to watch for championship laurels. The 49 team faced a rough twenty-game schedule that included such quintets as Co-Lin, East Central, Perkinston, Hinds, East Mississippi, Jones County Junior College, Southwest Junior College, and the Merchant Marine Base of Pass Christian. PEARL RIVER GIRL BASKETEERS The twelve lovely young ladies pictured below were the mainstays in the girls ' basketball program. They, too, faced a tough schedule from start to finish of the 1949 season. Their coach was Graham McDonald, returning from the previous season. His ex- cellent handling of the team won acclaim over the state and the Wildcat sextet he directed was the feared opposition over the conference. The losses suffered by the girls were always by the margin of a few points. Standing — left to right, there are: Jeanie Tolar, Columbia; Marie Ladner, Pass Chris- tian; Eloise Meyers, Prentiss; Helen Morris, Columbia; Bobbie Joyce Smith, Poplarville; Betty Ladner, Pass Christian; Frances Smith, Poplarville; Doris Ramshur, Improve; Ivy Ruth Wise, Carriere, and Coach Graham McDonald. The trio on the first row, from left to right, are: Bobbie Pearl Stringer, Columbia; Faye Bass, Prentiss; Wilda Loftin, Hub. Doris Ramshur, a freshman due to return next season, Helen Morris, and Eloise Meyers were outstanding at their forward positions. Betty Ladner was an alternate at forward or guard. Bobbie Pearl Stringer, Faye Bass and Wilda Loftin were guard starters the major- ity of the season. Bobbie Joyce Smith was another guard that saw plenty of action along with Frances Smith.
