Monogram Club BOYS’ MONOGRAM CLUB The purpose of the Monogram Club is to promote better sportsmanship. An Athletic award is presented to the football or basketball player when he has taken part in three-fourths of the quarters in any one season. In Baseball, one must par- ticipate in three-fourths of the total games. A player, who for some reason, is short of this goal and deserves entrance into the club may be nominated by a member and a vote taken. The past few years, we have undertaken to have a banquet, composed of all members, sponsors, and special guest. Since they have been enjoyed by everyone, we again plan for another one this spring. Maud The Giles County Symphonic Band is composed of high school students from Pearisburg and Narrows, who meet the necessary requirements for membership. This year the band is very fortunate to have as directors, Mr. Richard W. Beasley and Mr. J oseph Gollehon. In March, 195 3 at the District Six Music Festival the band was given a Superior rating in difficult Grade Five music by each of the three judges. This was the highest rating received by any band at the Festival. The highlight of the year was the trip to the Annual Lions’ Club Convention in Chicago, Illinois, where the band participated in the Grand Parade and was honored with a seventh place rating.
