September 13 — Red Devils open against Christiansburg with a decisive 18-0 victory on a rain soaked field. September 20 — The team suffered its first setback against a district foe at the hands of a strong Wm. Fleming team in Roanoke. The final score being 13-0. September 27 — Devils jump back in win column at the expense of Dublin to the tune of 25-0. October 4 — Red hot Red Devils pull biggest upset of season over a fast and heavy Galax aggregation. Coach Johnson ' s bag of tricks collected 32 points to 13 for the visitors. October 1 1 — Roanoke foes again proved too much for the fighting Devils in the form of Wm. Byrd. It was a 0-0 ball game for one-half then the heavier Byrd team took over to post a 14-0 decision. October 17 — Devils pull another hot streak in scalping the Blacksburg Indians 45-0. Every play was a touchdown play. The team redeemed itself for the previous week. October 23 — A small team from Hillsville came to town and returned disheartened. The first team scored 14 quick points and turned it over to the subs. The second string made itself look good in doing about as good as the big boys, ending 27-0. October 31 — The Red Devils suffered a disheartening defeat at the hands of Pulaski. A lucky field goal in the last seconds spelled defeat after a blocked kick had tied the game up. The Devils almost scored on a long pass the last play of the game, but the final was 9-6. November 7 — Narrows came to town and suffered a 19-6 flogging at the un- merciful hands of the county seaters before the largest crowd ever to see a football game in new War Memorial Stadium. A crowd of 2,000 witnessed the fracas. Eight men finished their high school eligibility on a team that had a very successful season. Twenty-five men earned their letters this season.
