Phlegar Sponsor. . . .Mr. George Surber The Boys’ Monogram Club, organized in the fall of 1945, has as its members the outstanding athletes in Pearisburg High School. Four charter members, Frederic Phlegar, Jack Neel, Bill Crabtree, and Creed Taylor, Jr., and their sponsor, Coach George Surber, initiated into the club in December and in May several boys that were eligible, dressed in the traditional three-cornered costume” of the younger set. A letter won by participation in one of the major sports, football, basketball, or baseball, and initiation into the club are requirements for membership. Miss Virginia Elmore The F.H.A. — the Future Homemakers of America — organized in 1946, has open membership for all girls who have had one year’s training in Home Economics. It devotes its time to the study of current problems in Home Economics and allied fields. The F.H.A. has as its main objectives the improvement of the school building and grounds and of the lunch rooms, helping with community service, the promotion of recreation in the home, school, community, and the attending of Morgans’ Beach Sum- mer Camp for the F.H.A. The Homemakers sponsored a Hallowe’en party for students of Pearisburg High School, and a tea with the supervisor of public schools as guest of honor, and carried local and state projects.
