pearisburg public library PEARISBURG HIGH SCHOOL PEARISBURG, VIRGINIA VOLUME - TWO Mrs. C. A. Hoilman The Peariscope Staff deems it indeed a privilege to honor one whose sincere devotion, loyalty, fairness, industry, patient and wise counsel, Christian leadership; and the gift of understanding and remembering her students have made her dear to our hearts. In recognition of her services to the youth of Pearisburg High School, we dedicate with admiration the 1947 Peariscope to Mrs. C. A. Hoilman. Mary Arminda Starnes To Mary To Mary, with admiration and with love; To Mary, whose praises we’ve forever sung. We find some comfort in remembering this thought: Those loved by the gods die young.” No one could be so lovely And admired by all as Mary; Her charming ways and winning smile Made our days seem bright and cheery. A Christian life, a happy life — All that was hers, you see. She proved to us how full and gay A life of any length can be. She is safe in the arms of Jesus; She is one of His angels on High. We shall live and venture onward, And hope to meet her by and by. — Jeanne Guthrie. Ruth Guthrie. Pearisburg High School IdministraHon Our Principal Mr. C. B. The first taste of victory came in a 6-0 defeat over the Blacksburg Indians, followed by a trouncing of the Dublin Dukes 12-0, only to be set back by the Pulaski Orioles the following week by an equal score. However, the next week the Red Devils completely overpowered the Narrows Green Waves in a stunning 2 5-0 victory. The winning of this game over Pearisburg’s keenest rivals won for the boys the trophy offered by the Pioneer Club in 1943 to the team winning three out of five games. Coaches George Surber and Frank Painter led the Red Devils through the season.
