THE KADET 1955 Published by The Corps of Cadets PEACOCK MILITARY ACADEMY San Antonio, Texas A NOTE TO OUR FELLOW CADETS This is our story of the year 1954- 1955 at our school. Peacock. It is a story of our development, achievement, and improvement, which was made possi- ble by the fine leadership and assis- tance of Colonel Wesley Peacock, and all the other members of the faculty. We hope this annual will be kept a lifetime to help you renew old memories and remind you of your old friends. With this wish, we proudly present the 1955 KADET. CONTENTS • HISTORY • DEDICATION • ADMINISTRATION • FACULTY • CLASSES • CAMPUS • CORPS • ACTIVITIES • GRADUATION • SPORTS • SNAPS FOUNDER Located at Woodlawn Lake, three miles from the business district of San Antonio, the Peacock Military Academy was founded in 1894 by Pro- fessor Wesley Peacock and is recognized as the oldest private school in Texas under the same family management. Some of the students now in attendance are sons of men who themselves attended the same school many years ago. The school was chartered by the State of Texas, February 18, 1904, and in the same year was one of the first three schools in the state to be recognized by the United States Government, when the first of many high ranking officers of the United States Army was detailed to the Academy as Professor of Military Science and Tactics. When, on July 7, 1908, Peacock was first classed A by the War Department, this was the first school, not only in Texas, but in any Gulf State, to receive this high recognition. It has consistently received a high rating each year. During World War I this Academy was desig- nated by the War Department to train civilians, as well as Cadets, to become officers of the army. After the war the United States Veterans' Bureau leased for five years the Academy and property, where subsequently five thousand ex- service men of the army were rehabilitated and were given vocational training under Govern- ment supervision. Upon termination of the Government lease in 1926, Professor Peacock gave the active man- agement to his two sons, Colonel Wesley Pea- cock, Jr., as Superintendent, and Colonel Donald W. Peacock, as Commandant of Cadets. In realiza- tion of the founder's life-long ambition the Academy became an educational foundation in 1933, when it was re-chartered as a non-stock, non-profit educational institution. During World War II the Academy again served the nation and state by training its young men students to take their places in the total war scattered throughout the world during the conflict attested to the benefits derived from their Pea- cock military, mental and moral training. Fully accredited by the State Department of Education and the Southern Association of Col- leges and Secondary Schools for college entrance without examination, and recognized by the United States Government for military equipment and training under Section 55c of the National Defense Act, the Peacock Military Academy is justly proud of its long and honorable record of over fifty years of successful experience in train- ing boys and young men for college, for business and for life. HISTORICAL We Hereby dedicate the KADET to two men who were our teachers, counselors, and friends. IT. COL. HOWARD R. ADAMS LT. M. CECIL FRANK The Class of 1955 DEDICATION COLONEL WESLEY PEACOCK, JR.
