Tucked away between inch-thick copies of the Record of the University of North Carolina at Ch apel Hill and Catalog of East Carolina University, you were intriguingly small and intimate even then. When yesterday was tomorrow, I sat on my front porch, chin in hands, wondering where you were. How would I begin to find you? Would you want me as I wanted you? Would I be accepted as I am? Would any of the calls on the hall phone ever be for me? Would I go to lots of fraternity parties and dances, and know the chance thrill of dating some good-looking guy I ' d never, ever seen before? Would I meet that guy who had been pre-formed in my subconscious since I first saw Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Could I possibly come straight out of my high school and pass any test at Peace College? Would I be able to have a social life, and get my work done too? How would I be able to please my parents, my teachers, and myself all at once? When yesterday was tomorrow, I was faced with countless questions. Peace College— You became my acquaintance one crisp October morning entitled Visitation, and as you introduced me to your President and Dean, I knew you would be unique and personable among all the rest. You had girls in your midst who smiled and said Hi! like I was one of their own. From the warmth of their smiles, I knew I wanted to be.
