Harper, Wagstaff, Gentry, Dudley, Royster, McKinney, not pictured Baker, Pridgen Modem Dance is an experience in movement. It allows man to explore possibilities for communication apart from the spoken and written word. Rooted in rebellion from the classical ballet, modem dance, since the turn of the twentieth century, has used an eclectic approach in its choreography. Lead by pioneers such as Duncan, St. Denis, Shawn, Humphrey, Wigman, Weidman and Graham, modern dance has undergone much transition. Throughout this development era and even to the present, modem dance ' s primary value has been in allowing individual choreographers to express their own art, without regard to pre-existing forms and traditions. It is in search of this creative spirit that the Peace College Dance Club functions. Choreography based upon contemporary political, social, and emotional problems is frequently done. Music chosen by the club ' s members reflects dancers ' personalities. The Peace College Dance Club annually presents a formal evening production in conjunction with PSCA. This year the club performed for honor grade prisoners of Central Prison here in Raleigh. A Spring Concert highlighted second semester activity. i The Green Room Players are very excited about the new theater being built at Peace this year where they hope to perform their major production. In the meantime, they are involved in attending workshops throughout the state and preparing for a performance which will be given during one of our vespers services second semester. Only now do I realize what an understatement that proved to be. Describing Mamie and the infinite things she has done for Peace would be impossible. Her love for Peace is surpassed only by her love for the girls at Peace. Mamie has succeeded in keeping unity and harmony within the student body, which at times seemed trying. I give up are three words which will never be found in her vocabulary. Mamie ' s understanding nature and easy-going disposition have helped all kinds of people get together. Each year at Peace College seems to bring the students closer to the teachers. As the year progresses, there seems to be one teacher or professor who is special to all of us. She is the one who is always there to listen and help. She understands and sympathizes when a problem arises, whether it be with grades, roommates, home, school, or boyfriends. She can just as easily share the happiness we experience, also. We know her as a teacher, a coach, and a friend. To us she is encouragement, friendship, enthusiasm, and, most of all, love- giving the little extras that are not required. For all of the above reasons and many more, we want to thank you. We, the Sophomore class of 1973, along with the annual staff, dedicate our yearbook, THE LOTUS, to you, a very special person. Two college years-it seems as if they have flown by . . . But now it is only wrapped up in our memories and in the pages of the 1973 LOTUS. In this book, I have tried to capture the true meanings and feelings of Peace College for all kinds of people. In the future, I hope everyone will look back to the LOTUS and remember her years at Peace. The LOTUS will probably be the only source of remembering a lot of friends.
