Business Manager foreword We, the members of the Lotus staff, present March Onward March as our 1966 theme. A great era ended last spring when Dr. William C. Pressly retired after serving Peace College as President for thirty-nine years. Under his leadership, Peace developed prestige and out- standing recognition as a Christian junior college, fought for her life and won, grew in plant and enrollment, and aided thousands of girls to become better Christian leaders in all walks of life. But let ' s look to the future: Peace is now fortunate to have Dr. S. David Frazier as President. It is his desire to keep Peace in her path of progress. His plans to do this are to retain everything that is good and beneficial of the old ( administration ) and to initiate the new only when it is certain that the new is superior to the old. Peace Girls, we can aid Peace in her march for progress. As our advisor, she has given us untiring aid. As a teacher, she is deeply devoted to her work and has given hundreds of girls a widening interest and knowledge in English. As a friend, she is always willing to listen and help girls with their problems. Her Christian personality and her warm smile are noticed by everyone she meets. We ' ve all had good times as well as rough ones, but your cheerfulness and friendly attitudes have made all matters very pleasant. We ought to feel extremely proud and lucky that we attended Peace during its year of progress and academic improvement and that we helped to strengthen it. The Student Council hopes that it fulfilled all your and the administration ' s ex- pectations in making this year worthwhile and creative and that it was a council to be proud of. Many years from now, when you review past moments of your life here at Peace, I hope all the thoughts and memories will bring great happiness to you. ALPHA PI EPSILON A chapter of Alpha Pi Epsilon, the Na- tional Secretarial Honor Society, is main- tained at Peace under the local name of Tau Chapter. This year the Tau Chapter had two projects. The first project was a question- naire which was sent to Peace graduates from the business department over the past three years. The purpose of the questionnaire was to determine if Peace graduates find a knowledge of office ma- chines beneficial. The second project was to establish a permanent roster of Peace graduates in the business department beginning with the year 1966. The roster includes the name, home address, business address, and kind of employment of the graduate. Seated: J. Bell, B. Milton, M. Fitzgerald, Presi- dent; A. Knott, N. Lindsay. Standing: S. Members obtain a fuller understanding of the political positions of their country and a firmer foundation for their own political connections. The Young Republicans Club is composed of a group of Peace students whose political convic- tions tend to be like the convictions of the Re- publican Party of the United States. In campaign years the Young Republicans Club sometimes helps in the local headquarters of Republican nominees. In other years the club seeks to under- stand not only the Republican Party but also the policies of the present Administration. By under- standing the position America takes in world affairs, the Young Republicans gain spirit and sound basis for their political convictions. y oung, Jsfipubllcan Club First row: J. Morgan, L. The monthly meetings include such varied activities as learning Spanish customs, songs, and dances, while sampling food. The club discusses the fu- ture and the problems of Spain and other Spanish- speaking countries. The Spanish Club affords an excellent opportunity to parallel the study of its language. Not all of the members of the Art Club are potential Rembrandts, but they all have an inter- est in art! Each year the club has a project to raise money. This year the members held a ba- zaar at Christmas. Every member contributed something she made to the sale. Peace Colleg,e Ckoir The melodious voices of thirty girls in perfect tone and harmony form the Peace Choir. Sing- ing for chapel services, special programs, and civic clubs are just some of their duties. Christ- mas activities came to a climax with the Candle- light Service by the choir. The College Choir combined with that of the First Presbyterian Church for a radio-broadcasted Christmas service. In March the choir sang at the installation of the new president, Dr. David Frazier. This spring the choir gave a concert and assisted at graduation exercises. Under the direction of Mr. Raymond Kreiner, the choir combines talent with pleasure. How does one make a Home Ec Club? Stir the ingredients of home decorating, styling, groom- ing, cooking, and sewing in a large pot. Heat with enthusiasm until boiling. Add many girls and let mixture stand. The result is an active Home Ec Club. This year the club adopted two welfare projects. Dolls were dressed at Christmas for underprivileged children, and children were entertained in the Raleigh hospitals. The club adopted as its continuing project to explore the history of the furnishings of various college rooms and to make a permanent record of their findings. The Home Ec Club puts the emphasis on activity. Jionte tlconomicA Club I First row. T. Timberlake. J. Duncan, J. Harris, M. Holloman. Second row: B. Johnson, V. Daniels, B. Stanard, I. Stewart. K. Under the capable direction of Miss Shearer, the dance club interpreted the carols, Silent Night, O Come, O Come, Immanuel, and Deck the Halls for the Christmas Assembly. The DeJta Chi ' s are responsible for the success of May Day and spend many hours working on the dances. This year the dance club and drama club held a reception for the members of the Aviv Theater of Song and Dance. The Delta Chi club combines pleasure with skill for rewarding results. Stunt s, lighting, music, and costumes are the ingredients for water ballet. Add enthusiastic girls who love to swim, and the whole result is a successful Porpoise Club. Due to a large mem- bership the club was divided into two groups. The girls create their shows and perform for civic clubs and parties. In January, Porpoise Club members attended a workshop at Duke Univer- sity. The highlight of the year was the Porpoise Club ballet held in the spring. PorpoUe Club First row: J. Whitaker, N. Under the enthusiastic direction of Mr. Johnson, the drama club has blossomed. In September a committee was elected to write the constitution. The club built backdrops for the production by the Aviv Theatre of Song and Dance and joined the dance club in giving a reception. Three one-act plays were given in January — Overtones, The Sand- box, and Sorry, Wrong Number. In the spring the Peace Dramateers presented a major produc- tion. If the life of the theatre appeals to one or if one ' s heart pounds with the excitement of an opening night, chances are she is a Peace Drama- teer! As one of the oldest clubs at Peace, the Papy- rus Club ' s objective is to stimulate interest in creative writing. Each year a booklet is prepared containing the poems and short stories of the members. Guest speakers talk of the vocational opportunities and other material interesting to aspiring writers. Big Sisters help the new girls find their way in their new environ- ment. Orientation Besides the long lines involved with regis- tration, orientation at Peace is a front lawn supper for everyone, nightly hall meetings for new girls, hen parties with old friends, meet- ing new boys as well as faculty members, and the unceasing problem of finding enough room for junk. J| .| Jronor Court Pledg.e Tradition as well as truth establishes the honor pledge all Peace students memorize and repeat to the Honor Council in an all-white candlelight service. Each girl realizes the im- portance of the oath to herself and to Peace in the closed ceremony. CandleUght Service The Peace Student Christian Association plays a vital part in the lives of the girls at Peace as it enriches their lives both spiritually and secu- larly. Each year a special candlelight service is held in which the student body voluntarily joins the P.S.C.A. The first phase of the candlelight service is a vesper program in the chapel. Fol- lowing the service, the girls file silently outside, forming a line on both sides of the walk and the fountain. Here the members step forward and give their pledge. The candles which the girls carry symbolize their faith in God and their will- ingness to serve Him. JraUi oween Party. October 25 was the day for ghosts, goblins, and ghouls to creep out of the musty corners of Peace and have a ball. And that ' s exactly what happened! The P.S.G.A. sponsored a Hallow- e ' en affair with prizes, fun, and jokes to liven the party. The Grover Hermann Student Center was mysteriously decorated with orange and black streamers hanging from the ceiling. Peanut %Veek During Peanut Week this fall, students ate candy bars they wouldn ' t buy for themselves, found dolls in their beds, and found special favors hidden in rollers. At the picnic ending this special week, the girls found out who their mysterious donors were. CnrUtntaS Supper The Christmas supper enabled all the Peace girls to celebrate Christmas together. It was our only sit-down and be served meal of the year. After a wonderful dinner the Christmas gifts for the kitchen staff were presented by our Santa Claus while the girls sang carols and enjoyed the Christmas spirit. Weekend o[ the Qt reen The highlight of the year was the hailing in of the spring season with the Weekend of the Green. The big weekend began with Stunt Night. Each class had a good time presenting its stunts to the faculty and to their dates. On Saturday afternoon the Grover Hermann Building was the scene of an informal dance with music provided by the Embers. It was a week- end to remember. May, May At the first of May, a May Day celebration was held on the front campus. Jeanie Menius, the queen, was crowned and reigned as the Dance Club entertained her and her court.
