Ediliir Business Manaiier The Lotus is pulilislied for ihe purpuse of preserving the special moments that are so nuich a part of Peace College. Therefore, the people liehind the I k tr to make it a ri ' al presentation of the school. The Edilor-in-Chief has the most responsible joli. for hei work starts in the summer and ends only when the annual is distributed ajnong the students. A great deal of work goes into editing and compiling the annual. For example, more than one thouglit goes into the choice of the ihrme and the colors. Producing an annual is like a contest, because there are definite deadlines to meet. Each idea has to pass several tests in order to become a part of the annual. A layout of each page must be prepared months in advance in order that the dunnny may be sent to the printer and engraver in time for proofreading and for making an necessary changes in the material. Hours of concentrated work gn int i the making of the yearbook. Besides all of the planning. photogra])hing. writing, proofreading, and typing that must be done b the cflitorial and art staffs, the business manager arul her stalf must s|iend hours in the selling of advertisements, an im])ortant undertaking that recjuires students who are able lo meet the public in a pleasing way. In order to make the Peace Time.s an effective paper, the staff tries to reach each individual student in some way. Therefore, there are many types of copy prepared for the fence Times with the intention of boosting every student s interest in the newspaper. On Monday afternoons, the Publications Room is the meeling place for the newspaper staff. In this Room the W(irk on the paper begins. The material for the next issue is assigned to the mem- bers of the staff, who must promptly begin to collect infor- mation for the stories assigned to them. Research requires a considerable amount of time and patience, because often a reporter has to see more than one person in order to get the information needed for a story. Promptness is essential, because the assignments have a deadline to !neet. since the make-up of the paper has to be completed in time to meet the printer s deadline. The newspaper staff not only has to write, edit, count, proofread, and t pe all articles for the newspaper, but it also has to compose suitable headlines for all of them. Whether it is a feature article, a gossip column, or a news item, the material should be of high qualitx : because the Peace Times is an important part of life at Peace College.
