These words are more than lyrics to our Alma Mater. They are a reality that cannot be altered. The spirit of Peace will live on in the hearts of her students. Time cannot change its impression nor mar its beauty. Peace and its creed will live on, regardless of change, so long as it is dedicated to strengthening young womanhood. The LOTUS of 1958 is adding another impression to the long list of memories of Peace College. Board of Ti ustees B OFFICERS William F. McPherson Chairman Rev. Don Carson AssislanI Secretary James D. Seniors of ' 58 Class History A little grey-haired lady walks up the sidewalk, stops, muses a uuiment and then walks uii. If we come closer to her. we see a smile crease her lips as old memories invade her mind. es. this is the [,)lace. the place where so man years ha e passed, left marks and moved on. The little lady stops and examines the grass with sudden interest. Ha! Car wheels — car |irints just like the dav I first came here in .57. It was ahout like a county fair combined with a mass migration of cars and hoxes, dresses, antl worn-down dadflies. The girls were so friendlv even then. Hnimm. a cigarette hutt. This is the same ole Peace, all right. This is the walk where dates strolled with their girls, and where dateless girls just strolled to get a little exercise. Aha. theres where we had the Mav Dav festival — o er there near the street — the Nutcracker Suite. I remember the comments made hv little children as our queen. Sue Wooten. walked bv. Coming to the entrance, the little lady stops and looks intently at Peace. Still as pretty as ever. There s the fountain with the gold fish. I remember the girls encircling the fountain in white dresses, holding little lighted candles, and singing ' Blest be the Tie That Binds. ' I can see it as clearly as if it were happening just now. Going to the door, the little ladv knocks, ihcn enters. In a moment, the hostess is there. Could I just look around a while? Believe it or not. I came here once. the little ladv exclaimed, lirr sharp eves taking in everything. Ahh. here s the Post Office. We got mail and reports here. I remember we alvva s preferred the mail. Going up the steps, the little ladv stops at the Lucy Steele Memorial. Never will I forget this place. I remember the Episcopal communion we had here my Junior year. The first there ever was I believe. . . . M prning watch was here too — once. Then the library becomes the locale of sufldcn concern. Here the girls read, studied, and look light cuts. Those Hghtcuts! Honestly! Nothing like psychoanlyzing teachers and prophes ing what our coming test will be like. The little lady leaves the librarv and stops at the parlors. Here ' s where we had meetings and discussions and oh ves — dates. This was quite a place. Spying the sign-out box — Oh. I remember you. What a lime we ' d have trying to get our perinissions in on time. These were our outlets to many good times. In further wanderings around the building the little ladv suddenly hears yells, wild shrieks of pure agony coupled with mischievous laughter. Hmm. There goes some- body being thrown in the shower again. ' ' com- ments the little lad . Later comes the crackle of the intercom and a shriek of a different nature. Someone mustve gotten a caller, she murmers. and sure enough. Miss — crack I the com cuts off here I — has a caller in Central Hall. Next the little lad goes lo ln-r old nioin. re- membering the roonnnate that ■■mc was there, the exciting times the bad had (followed, of course. b call dow ns I . 1 think many of us grew to true maturity here. It was so interesting to watch a girl change suddenh from a shy new girl to a Peace lady, having a college she could call her own. Then there ' s the Rec. Room. Who could ever forget that place? The home of bridge. TV, parties; or the smoker, home of the cigarette and relaxation where ever li(]dv. everything, and boys were discussed. The chapel where pla s. assend)lies were held; but most important of all. our chapel program, our worship, our vespers — religion, the artery of Peace, was here. It is also the place for class da and gradua- tion when old seniors with their little red roses march out to face the world with the tradition of Peace in their hearts. It was sad to see them go. but we were glad to know they ' d be building a life of their own. For the Juniors and the Preps. it was also a time of tears and happy farewells. Many we would never see again. But for some there would be next ear. Next year old Juniors rose quickly, assuming the Senior role. ' Here the little Lady pauses musingly. This was the year we were seniors. Don ' t remember that it felt too much different. We were at least old enough to have 12:01) per- mission and oung enough to mix ucll with ounger Peace girls. I remendjer this was the )ear of the Asian flu scare, the hut programs began ( the little hut uas fixed up so nicely), and the Denominational r(mps Chairmen. (I think we ' ll always respect Peace for her freedom of religion and her sincere desire to prove Christianit is a wa of life worth living. I Don ' t think 111 e er birget tlnjse midnight fire drills we had. Our hearts were in our throats as with a towel and a long coat we shivered down the fire excape or came down the steps. The little lady looks at the bookshelf. Exams! Ib ' U our brains swelled during those times. ' The little lady then sighs. The ear didn ' t seem to last very long, for suddenly it was time for us to graduate. I remember so vividly that last night when the sands of time ran low and we too took our little txmfpiet of roses and sjowl) marched aw ay.
