ON THIS OUR SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY, we take great pleasure in dedicating our annual to a person of great versatility. Miss Lovie Jones, a faculty member at Peace for many years, has exercised a far-reaching influence on the development of our school. A cheerful good morning and the warmth of a friendly smile have greeted Peace girls daily for many years. Her charming personality has attracted everyone, student or visitor, who has ever entered the portals of Peace. Miss Lovie, as she is affectionately called, was born near Raleigh and as a girl attended Peace. She continued her education in the United States and traveled abroad, studying in foreign schools under outstanding artists. Her extensive training and experience have enabled her to add prestige to our music department and to our college. Because of her sincere interest in Peace girls of the past and present and because of her close association with the school, it is with warmest affection that we dedicate this, the 1947 Lotus, to Miss Lovie Jones.

Z)lte Sei ent ' ilftn cAnniver- ar Of Peace Colleg.e READERS of the Lotus have ah-eady reahzed that this, the 1947 Lotus, is an an- niversary annual. Peace College opened its doors to students in 1872 under the presidency of the Rev. Robert Burwell and the associate presidency of Mr. John B. Burwell. Since that time hundreds of students have attended Peace, and many years have gone by. so that now in 1947 we find ourselves observing the seventy-fifth anniversary of our College. The trustees, the faculty, and the alumiae have all joined in making plans for the proper observance of this most important event in the history of Peace. The following committee representing all of these agencies has been in charge of making the necessary anniversary plans: Mrs. Robert Wyatt, Chairman Mrs. Thomas Stamps, President of the Alumnae Association Mrs. Frank Sherwood Mrs. D. C. Worth Miss May McLelland They have associated with them a large Anniversary Committee composed of over one hundred alumnae. We regret that our Lotus goes to press before commencement: consequently, we are not able to include in this copy of the Lotus any details of the 1947 commencement. We shall plan to present these appropriatel y in our 1948 Lotus. For our 1947 annual we are including a pictorial section covering in a very limited way the history of Peace as shown by the various administrations of the College, by a group of students of each ten year period in the years of the existence of the College, and by pictures of Peace Personalities. We are also presenting a gene program: PROGRAM— 1947 5:00 p.m 3:30 p.m Tuesday, June 3 Graduating Exc MISS Jane Leigliton Ric South Carohna. 11:00 a.m. Baccalaureate Sermon in the First Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Benjamin Rice Lacv, Jr., D.D., President of Union Theological Seminary. Richmond, Virginia. 7:00 p.m. Alumnae Vesper Service on Campus. The speaker will be Mrs. Donald Mclver of Bri.stol, Virginia 11 :30 a.m. Business Meeting, Alumnae Association in tlie Chapel. 1:00 p.m. Alumnae Luncheon. Followed by Class Reunions. 8:30 p.m. Presentation of Peace Pageant on Campus. 8:30 p.m. Graduating Exercises, College Department.
