CLASS OF 1988 META PEABODY HIGH SCHOOL PEABODY CLASS HIGH SCHOOL 1988 OF Table Of Contents Faculty 19 Seniors 31 Mini Mag 87 Student Life 95 Sports 117 Club 149 Vocational 165 Advertising 177 To Those I Love If I should ever leave you whom I love To go along the Silent Way, Grieve not, Nor speak of me with tears, But laugh and talk Of me as if I were beside you there. (I’d come • I’d come, could I but find a way! But would not tears and grief be barriers?) And when you hear a song or see a bird I loved, please do not let the thought of me Be sad . . . For I am loving you just as I always have . . . You were so good to me! There are so many things I wanted still To do ■ so many things to say to you . . . Remember that I did not fear ... It was Just leaving you That was so hard to face . . We cannot see Beyond . . But this I know: I loved you so • ’twas heaven here with you! Author unknown Submitted by a Laurie m ■ ■ m IN MEMORIAM KENNETH LIPMAN He valued each student for his herself and didn’t base that evaluation solely on grades or “textbook philosophy”. He took time to know the students he was counselling. He was also a good listener as well as a good advisor. The students of Peabody High School will miss the kindness and caring touch of Kenneth Lipman. Princi- pal McCarthy told us that we were the last class to enter the high school as sophomores. We felt pret- ty good to finally be in high school, but our minds were soon to change. Mr. McCarthy announced the home- rooms each of us would be in, and then we were escorted away by our teachers. Then there was that con- fusing walk up to the room. How am I ever going to find this every morn- ing? And at 7:30 A.M.? When we arrived at our homerooms, we were given our schedules and lockers. Then we were taken on a tour of the school, A-House-Blue, B-House-Red, and C-House-Orange? After we had started to feel secure in homeroom, the bell rang and we were sent off to our first class. Al- though we got lost the first few tries, we eventually found the way to our first class, and soon the rest of our classes. At the end of the day we also managed to get on the right bus. We returned the next day to be accompanied by the upperclass- men, the juniors and seniors. It had finally hit us that we were just lowly sophomores. We eventually got into the swing of things and elected our class officers. Jessica Athas was President, Jan Callahan was Vice-President, the Secretary was Ellen McBreen, and the Treasurer was Delphina Gomes. Along with our class advisor Mr. Terlizzi, we were able to raise $1000 in the magazine drive. Two odd things did occur in our sophomore year. Eight, yes eight fire drills in one day, remember? And the second was the broken wa- ter pipe in the cafeteria. The rain on the cafeteria! Well, we did make it through our sophomore year. We watched the seniors graduate and obtained the new title of JUNIORS. Our new class officers were Presi- dent Ellen McBreen, Vice-President Bailey Buchanan, Secretary Krissy Newhall, Treasurer Delphina Gomes, and our class advisor was Mrs. Yost. We also started to pre- pare to get our licenses. Weren’t Tanner City Driving Classes fun? Also, with the addition of the fresh- man class, the halls were much more crowded. On October 31, 1986 we attended the Junior Halloween party held at Kowloon’s. Best Costumes went to Kim DiStacio as a Spanish seniorita and the Blues Brothers, Marc Fer- manian and Bryan Tirone. The best group prize went to a group of clowns, Ellen Leonard, Viki Hernan- dez, Sue Burns, JoAnne Hunt, Shar- on Kamens, Dayna Mendonca, Traci Contilli, and Kristyn Murray. In November we were fitted for our class rings, And who could forget our football season? Our Tanners were champions of the GBL and CLASS HISTORY went all the way to the Division 1 Superbowl in Foxboro’s Sullivan Stadium. On February 27 we attended our semi-formal at Jimmy’s Allenhurst. Everyone looked great and we danced the night away to the music of Dance Music Express. The Spanish Club held its first Lip Sync Contest in March. The winners were Bryan Tirone, Jeff Neil, and Steve Zampitella, the Buggin’ Crew. Our Junior Prom was at the Shera- ton-Tara, Danvers on May 8. The girls looked great in their gowns and the guys in their tuxes. Class presi- dent Ellen McBreen took the title of Prom Queen and Josh Siegel stole King. The prom was a pleasant end- ing to our junior year, and after the old seniors graduated, we became the new SENIORS! We elected Ellen McBreen as Presi- dent, Billy West as Vice-President, Karen Lattanzi as Secretary, and John Doherty as Treasurer, and our new class advisor was Mrs. Irish. We kicked off our senior year with our Luau at Kowloon’s. We danced the night away in our jams and Hawaiian shirts to the music of Dance Music Express. But this was just the begin- ning of our long awaited senior year. College application s were to be com- pleted and SAT’s to be taken. We also had our senior pictures to hand out. On November 10, our Costume Par- ty was held at Prince Spaghetti House. Stacey Goldbaum won best individual costume by dressing up as a telephone. Dayna Mendonca, Su Burns, and Joanne Hunt won best group, wearing costumes for Huey, Louie, and Duey. A good time was had by all as DJ Chris Culkeen spun the tunes. It was time to be measured for our caps and gowns on January 14. We finally started to realize that gradua- tion day was not too far away. Our Senior Snowball was held on January 18 at the Danversport Yacht Club. Chris Culkeen was the DJ as all the seniors danced the night away. With second quarter ending, our Se- nior year had started to wind down and the pressure had started to less- en. There were so many plans to make. Graduation on June 5, 1988 would be here before we knew it. Our high school years would come to a close. At our twenty-fifth re- union it will seem just like yesterday that we received our yearbooks and parted from close friends to pursue our own individual futures. The team was led by cap- tains Mike Eon, Scott Lucas, TJ Fabrizio, Jorge Enes, and Billy West. A highlight of the season was the quartet of Jeff Appel- stein, Wallace Johnson, Billy West, and Scott Lucas taking a third place finish in the 4 x 200 meter relay at the Class ‘A’ State Relays in 1:36.4. The team also had a strong showing at the League Meet and the Northern Area. 136 The Girls’ Indoor Track Team grabbed the GBL title for the sec- ond consecutive year, turning in an undefeated 7-0 record. The team was led by tri-captains Ellen McBreen, Jen Brooks, and Mi chelle Pappas. Mike Fortin leaves quietly When we arrived in 1984, we were considered Pre- Voke students. That year we had all the slime jobs. Mr. Kohut spilled transmission fluid down his pants. Chris Tavares and Tony Barrete couldn’t help themselves and drove a shop car around the school with no licenses. Of course they were caught. Sean Bullerwell got caught tak ing a chamois cloth without permission. He later was known as The Chamois Stealer . John De nis got kicked out of every shop during his diffi- cult Pre-Voke year. Finally, Mr. Lembidakis ' shoes caught on fire when his electronic heater went wild. Come sophmore year things really didn’t get much better. Mike Fortin was his charming self when he told Mrs. Crocker that she should move to England where everyone was just as perfect as she. Charlie Freeman broke his collar bone in football. Hot ash went down Mr. Kohut’s pants. Mr. Kohut did have his problems. Tony Barrete thought air was not compressable. Carpentry class nailed gloves and objects under the shingles of the shed we were building. Earl Gagnon lost his famous front tooth when Mike Fortin worked him over in Mr. Mello ' s history class John Denis was watched carefully this year for kicking cans around shop. During sophmore year the bird bath or wash basin got a lot of use. Mr. Rollins was placed in there and given a good soaking By junior year we all felt a little more relaxed with our setting, but things always managed to spring up. Ray Weatherbee got susp ended for refusing to come to detention. What a brat! Manny Ataide got his hair full of break fluid. Al Sharpe got his hair washed in the toilet in the gym. Carpentry juniors got caught drinking something by Mr. Marquis. Auto juniors weren ' t much better and hung a freshman by his pants on the chair lift and left him there during lunch. Remember another freshman who got hog-tied by Donnie Knight and Ray Weatherbee? Those freshman did have a rough year. Now it’s our senior year and we feel like we own the place. Donnie Knight and Ray Weatherbee got to leave Eric Paolucci leaves to the riches of Florida Richard Robinson is leaving his Mobil hat to Dana Turgeon Al Sharpe is leaving the body of an ' 82 camero to Joey Ala Todd Stevens just leaves Patty Theriault leaves her signature, comb set, and case of hair spray Mike Vess leaves his many B S. stories to the class of 89 Ray Weatherbee leaves the worst attendance record Mike Young is leaving a toupe behind for Mr. Mooney caught borrowing the carpentry bus. Mike Fortin, thinking he was superman, tried to stop a car, which was out of control, with his body. He was not successful. Joe Furtado ' s nose and fingers were slightly rearranged by Earl Gagnon ' s fam- ous slapshot. Linatopi was president of the senior class and didn ' t remember he was until we told him in February Remember the day Todd Ste vens lost his pants in front of Mr. Decowski? For the last three years Machine shop has held the record for the most suspentions, detentions, lates, and absenses of any other shop in the school. Curtis Bartlett says that school lunches can’t get worse since they ' re pretty bad right now. David Karakaya says that the Voke is fantabulous . I think we all agree with Dave.
