Peabody Institute Library Peabody 253 00300 790 ■nmanar •mm «.!■■■ Ml - ®f)e ffcleta 1959 Peabody High School Peabody, Mass. iFnmtmrit Four of the most enjoyable years of our lives have come to an end. These happy years at Peabody High School have afforded us enumerable moments of pleasure both academic and social, valuable friendships and acquaintances, and the most worthwhile of experiences, all of which, to every member of the graduating class of nineteen hundred and fifty-nine, should be lasting memories. Upon graduation, we shall find ourselves in an environment which will provide us with many new experiences. With a mature attitude, we shall be expected to face problems which will have a lasting influence on our future lives. However, our divergent paths on the road to success may separate us from our present companions, and fleeting years may tend to erase from our minds those pleasant and profitable moments that we have enjoyed during our high school careers. It is the hope of the Staff that this book will long serve as a reservoir of our memorable and cherished days at Peabody High School. Herein lies the Meta. SiuMratum itthiii (Eurnrlta E. HOMEROOMS Looking back over the four happy years we have spent at Peabody High School many of us will find that our senior year has left us with ntor° fond memories than any of the other years. However, our first three years at P.H.S. were not uneventful. You can remember the day in 301 when Miss O ' Neill, our homeroom teacher, put VARTY ARAKELIAN in the corner and told him to write ‘‘I will never do it again one hundred times on the board. During our sophomore year, we recall how every morning PHIL ANTHONY and BOB ATKINSON went rummaging through a certain girl’s pocketbook. One day they even made her skip to her next class because they had taken one of her shoes. Looking back on our junior year we can still remember how a certain some- one, who shall remain nameless, came in every morning and asked RUTH AMARAL for her French homework. And Ruth like the friendly and helpful girl that she is, always responded will- Do you remember how JUDY CULLEN always had her baton locked up in Mr. Gorman’s closet? We are still wondering why. Maybe she thought that the boys might tak“ up twirling. Then came out senior year. As the year began we found that JOHN BRIGGS and JOE CAPLITO were still trying to “sweettalk” the homeroom teachers. Poor Miss Coyle! Can you imagine BILLY BUTTIMER as a quiet boy? Well it is true. Bill was once a quiet little boy, but then he met that ever-so-talkative ' MIKE COLOTTI.” Speaking of talkative people, some of the members of H.R. 101 have been participating in a talking marathon, the purpose of which was to select con- testants for the TV show Keep Talk- ing.’ BOBBY BROWN, who was in the lead, was eliminated when he found that too much of his time was taken up by the Declaration Club. LORRAINE RARROS looked like a good prospect lor a while. We were knocked off our feet when ELZA BETTENCOURT, once a quiet type, won in a walk. To get revenge for this contest, an- other 101 group ran a Keep Quiet” contest. PAUL DZIERZAK and DICKY DOIRON proved to be tough compe- tition for one another. The favored candidate and winner was MISS ARLENE BENDO. H.R. 101 feature daily literary dis- cussion with MARILYN CONDE and HELEN EAGAN presiding. Also, LOUISE ROLLA and JOANNE COLE carried on a continuous and very inter- esting conversation with a girl from 103. This year as every other year BETTY BRY ANT was setting the pace for girl’s fashions at P.H.S. What ' s this? DAN BRADLEY is try- ing to sell his streamlined (?) car of the future? We can remember VIRGINIA EIRO as the cheery girl with the cleanest desk in the school. She tried to show ' PAUL D ANJOU the trick, but Paul had her beaten. His desk was always clean. Why shouldn’t it be? He didn ' t have any books! JIMMY EAGAR, the “American Bandstand Ambassador to P.H.S.”, is still trying to fascinate those two pretty girls, SANDRA BRETON and MARCIA DeVARENNES. Sandy and Marcia seem to be competing with BOB CLANCY for Nobel Late Slip Prize. We have another runner-up in a fair young miss named LORRAINE DOWNING. I don’t think that any of us ever found LEONARD B ON F ANTI in a gloomy mood. He has the right out- look on life: Smile and the world smiles with you; cry and you cry alone.” It seemed as if collecting late slips was beginning to become BOB DAVIS’ favorite hobby. ROCHELLE ESKENAS and DOTTIE BELL are at it again in their cars. I can well remember the day when it was safe to walk down Central Street. During our Junior year NANCY’ CANDEAS joined our Rogue’s Gallery. A friendly and sociable girl, she quickly became a part of our class. It has been decided that HAROLD BARNES should be a spaceship pilot. He certainly got enough practice with his pencil and erasers. Remember how much experience LARRY CUDDIRE has gained working with the mikes at P.H.S. Upon gradu- ation, Larry will be in much demand by many TV stations. LINDA BAKER must really like JLH.S. to give up sunny Florida to come back to us. It was truly amazing how PAUL ( PEN. ME i E ' DELSTEIN could take home one or two books and keep his average up. We can still hear RAY (THE DRUM- MER MAN) DANIELS trying out the new beats on his desk cover. Real gone, man, both you and the desk. We can remember poor DOLORES BASSARAS who joined us in our junior year, having no peace because “the boys” were always teasing her. Did you ever see PAT ARATHUZIK stay in one place for more than 10 minutes? She comes into the home- room, says hello, then disappears. The same holds true for PAT DZIERZAK except she has an exercise in the morning. Those morning atten- dance slips must be collected. The latest rumor is that JUDY BLAKE is in our homeroom. It seems that our wandering cheerleader has her own homeroom, the whole school. We can still remember the time when JOHN CALLOR and BILL CASS found a baby picture of KIMBALL CROCKER. Before the brawl had end- ed John and Bill had their pictures tacked on the bulletin board, too. Over the last four years we have been a problem to our teachers. We wish to say Thank You” to the P.H.S. faculty for the happiness we have found. We hope that our future lives will be filled with such happiness. Good luck to everyone in the graduating class of “59 . When we think of LILLIAN HOLUK, we remember how she brightened each day with her laughter. Of course, 102 had some reputations to he upheld, NICHOLAS KOKORAS, although very quiet in the homeroom, could make himself heard by playing his guitar. The electric typewriter must have been invented for SONJA GUSTAVSON, who was the quietest girl in our home- room and well known for her speed in typing. As our high school years come to an end, we can look hack and remem- ber all the good times that we have shared together, especially as Seniors in Room 102. Vie had seen GERARD KIMBALL and LEO La BELLE standing outside the door so many times that we some- times wondered if they ever moved. Each morning during the year as we walked over the threshold of 102, we were greeted by CAROL fOSTER and her friends from the other homerooms as they listened to BARBARA FELI s horse stories. We will always remember 102 ' s song- bird, WILSON LOBAO, standing near the wdndow whistling Around the World” while anxiously awaiting the arrival of JOHN KERWIN, JAMES HETER, and JOE LaSCOLA to check the answers to their physics problems. How can anyone in our homeroom ever forget the morning fcfter the hockey playoffs, when NANO HOPKINS entered the room. Of course, we were all anxious to hear that ROGER FESSENDEN had made the important goal that spelled a victory for Peabody. Hockey seems to affect people dif- ferently. One morning, after stopping to chat with her friends, JoANNE GLOW ACKI noticed the black eye that JIMMY GREEHY had received at a previous game. Although we can remember the day JEAN GAGNON forgot her poeketbook, we can never recall a day wdien she forgot to mail a letter to Billy. DON GAGNON always seemed to We can remember how nervous JUDY have a hard time getting any extra GOLDSTEIN was as February 7 drew studying done in the morning. Could near. On that night, she made her debut it be because of a certain female visitor? in Our Hearts were Young and Gay.” We could always go to JOHNNIE GAHAGAN for advice. Nine times out of ten, his reply would be “just keep walking.” While we are on the subject of walk- ing, how many times have we seen Mr. Donahue walk toward the back of the room to quiet down some of the boys. Three guesses who the boys were ! Y’our guesses are right, if they are JIMMY MACHAKOS, PETER MAISTRELLIS, and GEORGE MANTSOURANI. Is DAVE HEMINGWAY absent today?” was a daily question which was always answered by someone who had seen him on his way up to the biology lab. Early in the morning, ROBERTA JACOBS, JANE HENDERSON, JUDY HEENAN, and PAT HOWARD could be seen with “comb in hand” waiting for RITA HARKINS and JOAN GRIFFIN. If they had charged rent for the use of their mirrors, Rita and Joan would have been rich today. As the m orning progressed, WINIFRED FOSS. DIANE FILIAULT, and CAROLYN GILL could he seen talking about their boyfriends when suddenly they would be interrupted by DON EMILIAN who would order them to vacate the premises” so that he could regain the use of his own seat. PHILIP KINGSTON, better known as “LEFTY ' ,” arrived daily on the early stagecoach from West Peabody shortly before CAROL GODDESS and ELLEN FOLSOM arrived from that other well known part of town. Both girls admit- ted that even a stagecoach was more than South Peabody had for a while. The day after the election of Vocational Club Officers, we noticed HORACE KABLE and GEORGE HODGDON waiting by the door. We soon found out that they were awaiting the arrival of THOMAS HARKINS, newly elected Vice-President of the club. Many times during the year when RICHARD GAUDET. ROGER FINE- GOLD, and BETTY FIELD were study- ing for a sixth period test, ROBERT ELLISON was glad that he was a Dis- tributive Education Student. Each day after the attendance had been taken, three names were likely to be crossed off the absence list. SANDY’ GALARIS, EDDIE LaPOINTE, and PETER KUTRUBES had to uphold their reputation of being late. However, the class was confident that they would arrive eventually. Now that we have given you a picture of the typical happenings in 102 during the year, we close by wishing the mem- bers of the class good luck and happi- ness in their future endeavors. Another Wednesday had rolled around. As usual we wer“ to have our so-called study period. (Who studies?) Nothing has changed. DOC MURPHY, BUDDY OUELLETTE, TINY TIM, and TOM McLAUGHLIN are hanging out the window while MISS CARROLL hopelessly attempts to seat them. In the process of taking atten- dance there is a great discovery; the one, the only MELVILLE is missing. Whoops, here comes MR. GREEHY marching in with the lost soul. As we gaze around the room we see JEANINE LAUZON and TOBY LIPPA searching frantically for the absence notes which th“y never had in the first place. What ' s JUDY McADOO and KAELLEN McHUGH fighting about this time? Oh, it’s the low mark JUDY got in the his- tory test. The poor kid got a 99%. In the middle of the battle royal is SHEILA McCARTHY refereeing. We wonder how it ' s possible for CATHY MICHALLYSZYN to sleep with all this noise. Crash! Bang! Oh, it’s only MARY- ELLEN M ARI 11 FAX K Vs and ELLEN- ANNE LENDALL ' s mirror and bobby- pins on the floor again. Seven years bad luck, girls. Believe it or not, there are some quiet people in 103, thanks to MARJORIE LORD, JUDY MURPHY, and JOYCE KINGSLEY. CHRISTINE KARRA and PAT JOHNSON are still worrying about the cheerleaders’ sweaters. Don’t worry, girls, they’re coming. Outside the room is CYNTHIA KIRSTEIN complaining to MISS NARDINI that no one is pay- ing his Dramatic Guild Dues. Looking out the door, we also spy RILLY OG1BA and BILLY MILLEA dashing down the corridor chasing MR. MC- CARTHY’ (that’s a switch). Lucky kids, they’re leaving the school to collect ads for our Meta. PAT MULLARKEY, better known as Dear Blabby” is reading one of her famous lovelorn letters to CLAIRE O’CONNOR. BARBARA MAJESKI and BONNIE MAKELA. MIKE MARTIN is talking to JOHN O’HARA and GARY MERRITT is still grumbling about his new ’56 red and white oil burner. He seems to be having a little trouble with it lately. Conse- quently, when he goes to the gas station, he says, “Check the gas and fill the oil. ' ’ Relaxing in the back of the room with his feet on the desk is little CHRISTY’ MASSIOS reading a hot rod magazine. Here comes our librarian, GLORIA MOSKEVICH, followed by SUZY Mac- DOUGALL who is trying to sneak to her seat without being caught. Sorry, Sue, get another late slip. Y’our home- room is 103, not 102. Who’s the strange boy entering our domain? Goodness, it’s TONY PANTAZOPOULOS who has just returned from his Wednesday morning visits from 105. Welcome back Tony. As Miss Carroll gives a sigh of relief that in a few moments, her little cherubs will be gone for the day, she looks out the window and catches a glimpse of the late comers. RUTHELLEN LeCAIN and ART PAVLO. The chimes from the clock strike 9 and the students in 103 regretfully leave their seats and adjourn to their first class. ■f VOCATIONAL ACTIVITIES RALPH SIKORA, and THOMAS RUSSELL? As I hopped out of my car that blue Monday morning, I couldn’t help cher- ishing the thought of the thrilling ( ? ) school day ahead. This was Senior pic- ture day! Everybody was carrying boxes loaded with clothes and props for the pictures. Laden with books and boxes 1 started to cross the street but quickly jumped back. CALVIN SPURR was tearing down Central Street with his usual carload of boys. He’s always in such a hurry to get to school! After having the door opened by a polite Senior boy, proving that chivalry is Hot dead, I headed directly toward Room 104. Halfway down the corridor I spied JIMMY PHOTIOU, our most original boy, showing-off his ‘ ' cool’’ bermudas to his slightly-shocked audience. I struggled through the enthusiastic crowd, only to find another small circle of girls blocking the doorway. In the middle was pretty POLL’t PYZLUKA modeling her slacks and stiffly-starched white shirt for the Popularity picture. Finally, pushing my way through the doorway, l noticed LORRAINE O’CONNOR busily studying her history. Laying my books on my d“sk, I made a quick survey of the room. In the far- thest corner was A ALERIE ROY’s and BARBARA PEARL’s Beauty Salon. Their first customer was GAIL SMITH. Each morning this familiar scene takes place. Their motto: ‘ ' Prac- tice makes perfect.” Mr. Greehy is determined to make a successful personal secretary out of SHEILA ROBINSON. There she was, just a few seats over, working diligently on the monthly absence report. Here comes SHIRLEY TIMSON to the desk to borrow Mr. Greehy’s his- tory notes ! BARBARA SUDAK is also at the desk filling her fountain pen with the class supply of ink. After all this pen- manship practice, she ought to be a beautiful writer. (And she is!) Directly in front, LEE RUBY and MARY PSZENNY are exchanging ideas about poses for class pictures. They can’t seem to agree on which pose is best. Half hidden in the seat behind them is one of the few quiet boys, GEORGE SELLIOS. There goes cute ANN SAFCHUK and her silent (?) partner CAROL QUINTILIANI with another library permit. Those new books must be very interesting! Toward the back wall is that “talking trio” that Mr. Greehy so fondly calls them. Is that true VIRGINIA PYBURN, Why is everyone moving away from the door? Oh! Here come CATHV STEPENUCK and TOBY TARLOW carrying their science fair specimen, Homer the frog. Our physicist, JUSTIN REMIS, is expertly demonstrating his science pro- ject to JIMMY RING, our interested biologist. Guess it isn ' t quite perfected yet. Popping in and out of the room is our busy circulation manager, DAVID RICHARDSON. The magazine seems to be distributed quite well under his management. Our hard - working representative SHERRY PEARL is reminding WAL- TER PYBURN and many other forget- ful Seniors about their class dues. Guess it’s just human nat ure to forget! MARGIE SCARNEGIE is paying the last few cents of her’s now. “Only thirty-one more days left,” says CAROL ODETTE, the official board checker, as she changes the number of days on the blackboard. It’s so con- venient to sit right next to the board, isn’t it? Near the door ROBERT REED was listening patiently to RICHARD PIERCE tell about his experiences with Mr. Cronin. Those driving classes are really rough, aren’t them? Just directly in front of Richie is sweet NANCY O’DEA, struggling to close her desk cover. She’s not studious! She believes in duplicates, that’s all. Speaking of smart girls here comes cute, little LINDA (Clementine) SHOER. Her coat is no sooner off than she’s off to 103 to talk to her twin. The bell had just rang as I finished hanging up my coat. JOE SILVA and CYNTHIA PIETRAZIK had just -lip- ped in the door. Guess they just made it again today. Better late than never,” is their motto. Regardless of what other rooms claim, from the evidence presented, I think we have the “Best Sr. Homeroom of 1959.” Agreed? 105 Do you know what happens in the morning between 8 o’clock and 8:20 in 105 ? The classroom is in its usual uproar as pretty THERESA WALOR hurries to meet a certain lad from 102. And there is DEBBIE WENTWORTH giving KATHY WHITNEY her daily assignments for the Observer Art Staff. But where is NANCY WILSON? She must have gone to 104 , while BUDDY TRABUCCO and DAVE TRACCHIA stay in 105 bragging about last night’s hockey game. Just as our homeroom teacher, the honorable Mr. Gorman, closes the door to start the morning prayer, BILLY WALKER and RONALD WALTERS come running into the room. Immediately after the prayer, PAUL WALLACE faithfully starts his history homework while JOHNNY WALOR titiiiic wut iv yviiiic jvt does his bookkeeping. Physics seems to keep DAVE STANLEY and FRED STEWART quite busy in the morning. ROBERT SULLIVAN, who keeps the class alive with his widely-acclaimed humor, is talking to FRED VLASUK, who is the quietest boy in 105. Thanks to ROBBY WALKER, CAROL WARON just got a swell idea for a science project. Don’t blow up the school, will you, Carol! How nice of CAROLE WALSH to compliment VIVIAN VLASUK on her famed collection of class pictures. By the way. congratulations to our own Y1ISS CAROLE WALSH for being chosen the best-looking girl of the senior class. As the hell rings for class, AMY XANTHAKIS can be seen saying au revoir to the class and Mr. Gorman until 1:20, and also wishing wondrous luck to the seniors of 105. 105 wishes to the graduating class of 1959 THE BEST OF LUCK ALWAYS. Don ' t fail to attend the first reunion. ■ A AV ! ' 4 ★ ★ ★ • + $ -k “Arnmtii the Itlorlii” Paging DAVE STANLEY and DAVE RICHARDSON. Flight 607 for Paris, France, leaving on runway eleven in five minutes.” As we board the first atomic powered airplane designed bv KIMBALL CROCKER and PAUL MURPHY and con- structed by ROBERT BROWN and DAVID HEMINGWAY, we are greeted by two gracious hostesses, RUTH AMARAL and LORRAINE BARROS. f rom our seats at the back of the plane, we can see the ambassadors to Greece, ANTONIS PANTAZOPOULOS and PETER MAISTRELLIS playing chess with the great thinkers, JAMES HETER and PETER KUTRUBES. CAROL ANN FOSTER, Hollywood actress, and her booking agent ROCHELLE ESKENAS have just stepped aboard. CAROL ODETTE acting as Miss Foster’s private secretary refuses to allow anyone to bother her with auto- graphs. Now ' we hear the voices of the pilots RICHARD PIERCE and WILSON LOBAO echoing on the loudspeaker. Fasten your safety belts.” Its not long before we’re winging our way over the Atlantic. Down below is DANIEL BRADLEY and LEONARD BONFANTI paddling their raft. Hope they make it to Africa! CATHY MICHALLYSZYN and RUTHELLEN LeCAIN bring us a nice hot lunch. However, they’re really too excited to talk about anything because NANCY HOPKINS, national known syndicated columnist of The New Y ' ork Times, and CAROL WARON, editor of The Pacific Monthly, are aboard. Nancy is interviewing ROGER FESSENDEN, famous Olympic hockey champion. Many pleasant hours are passed listening to JIM EAGAR and his radio show. Fasten your safety belts, please.” With these fast planes, it doesn’t take long to get to Paris. Unfortunately, Dave sprained his ankle getting off the plane. We have to take one of JIYI PHOTIOU’s red taxis to La Croix Hospital. Here we find NANCY’ O’DEA, the hospital receptionist, only too glad to arrange an appointment for Dave. On our way to the first aid room MARY PSZENNY and LEE RUBY pass us pushing a supply wagon. PHIL ANTHONY ' and LINDA SHOER invite us to step into their office and see the work they’re doing on Medical Research. Turning a corner, we pass the office of TOBY ANNE TARLOW, resident phychologist. LORRAINE O’CONNOR and PAT HOWARD do a fine job bandaging Dave’s foot and we’re soon on our way to LARRY CUDDIRE’s new hotel. Here we find CLAIRE O’CONNOR and KAELLEN McHUGH working hard at the desk to make sure every- one has comfortable quarters for the night. Passing the lounge, we can hear ANN SAFCHUK finishing the last few lines of ‘‘0 Promise Me”, accom- panied by RED STEWART and DON EMELIAN. Everyone seems to be quite excited over her hairdo which was styled by BARBARA PEARL and VALERIE ROY. SHEILA ROBINSON and NANCY CANDEAS are working here to pay for their vacation in Paris. Their job is to find out the customer’s reaction to the food he eats. VIVIAN VLASUK did a fine job decorating this dining room. It isn ' t difficult to overhear BOB SULLIVAN and TOM HARKINS, managers of the Boston Red Sox. dis- cussing plans for the forthcoming season. The following morning on our wav to the Sorbonne, we spot KATHERINE WHITNEV and DEBBIE WENT WORTH painting the Eiffel Tower (on canvas that is.) SHEILA McCarthy and MARILYN OONDE greet us at the entrance to the University. Walking through the main building, we meet many old friends. TOBY LIPPA is in charge of the French Deaprtment and JOAN GRIFFEN is a resident teacher in history. TOM RUSSELL claims that everyone passes his English course. BILL GREEN, Chief of Police, stops the cars so that we can cross the Champs D ' Elysse. Here in one of Paris ' finest stores CAROLYN GILL and GAIL SMITH try to sell us a pair of mink-lined socks but they’re not the right size. Since it ' s noontime we step into one of BOB REED ' s many food shops for lunch. Before we catch our plane to Italy, we stop to g“t haircuts. RALPH SIKORA gives Dave a crew cut and JOE SILVA gives me a trim. Flying over the Argonne Forest we see GALVIN SPLRR taking charge of his tr°es. It isn’t long before we’re coming down over Italy. RICHARD GAL1DET S expert knowledge of mechanics saved us from a disaster over the Mediter- ranean. The weather here is beautiful. Stepping into JOHNNY GAHAGAN ' s Pizza Parlor we find BOB DAVIS and EDDIE LaPOINTE waiting on the customers while VARTY ARAKELIAN serenades them with his guitar. JUSTIN REMIS just flew in from Venice. He has been collecting antiques for his store. PAUL DZIERZAK take- us on a sightseeing tour around Italy. CHRISTY MASSIOS and CHARLES HODGDON seem to lie having trouble try- ing to find anyone who w’ants his car customized. Although Italy is very interesting our plane is due in from China in a few hours. Hong Kong is very warm in this season of the year. BILLY MELVILLE is waiting to give us a ride in his Rickshaw to the Yum Yum Chop Stick factory. GERARD KIMBALL and PHIL KINGSTON are hard at work making king-size chop sticks so they can eat more food. On our way to the Tea House we pass LEO LABELLE and NICHOLAS KOKORAS trying to repair the Great Wall of China before the Monsoons set in. At the teahouse at last, we spot some familiar faces. Oh yes, JOYCE KINGSLEY and BARBARA MAJESKI are sipping tea over there by the window. JOHN KERWIN and MIKE MARTIN wave as they pass us in their Junk. JUDY MURPHY and PAT ARATHUZIK are outside gathering flow-ers in the Botannical Gardens to put on their professor ' s desk. The weather is so hot that the teahouse had to install two air conditioners. tom McLaughlin and fred vlasuk do a good job at circulating the air with their big Chinese straw fans. Looks as if we’re off again. This time it ' s to Hawaii by boat. This particular boat was built with the engineering skill of JOE LASCOLA and JIM MACHAKOS. Come on Dave, we don ' t want to be late for the ship.” Okay, Okay. I ' m coming.” Wow! I.ook at the police. Wonder what they ' re on board for? Haven ' t you read the newspapers? CHIEF RICHARD DOR ION and FT. ARTHUR PAVLO caught a stowaway on board! Win they even had BILL OGIBA from the F.B.l. on the case. There’s JOHN BRIGGS and ROGER FINEGOLD. They ' re working for Priee-Waterhouse and Co. Watch out. here comes JOE CAPUTO. He must still he trying to get people to pay for their Meta ads. Let ' - stop in at the Engineering ( (invention, it ' s just down the hall.” Good idea. ' Say. there ' s BOB ATKINSON from General Electric, DONALD GAGNON from Raytheon, and TIM O ' SUI.I.I- AN from Ireland deeply engrossed in the future of electricity. Before returning to our cabin we stop in to a- t t manieur- from JUDV CULLEN and RLENE BENDO. Through the porthole we can see JUDY McADOO painting a picture - f seasick BII I A MILLEA. I just fine those shades of green ! JANE HENDERSON and DIANE FILIAUT, social directors of the ship, suggest taking a few ' golf lessons from ROB CLANCA to pass the tinea JOHN CALLOR has been employed to retrieve any golf halls that might land in the ocean. CHRISTINE KARRA and VIRGINIA EIRO seem to lie having more luck with shutfleboard on the upper deck. ELLEN LENDALL serves us our dinner. The food is really excellent especially when MARJORIE LORD, ship ' s hostess, adds the finishing touches. Oh. Oh, there- poor SANDRA GALARIS working just as hard as ever scrubbing the decks. We ' re surprised to find JEANINE LAUZON aboard. She ' s attracting quite a hit of attention since she has just been chosen queen of the Continental Ball. BARBARA F E LI and GLORIA MOSKEVICH insi-t that they’re expert swimmers, but they’re yelling help to the lifeguard. Wonder why? Stepping on the lower deck we meet SONJA GUS- TAV.SON who is currently acting as interpreter for the United Nations. JUDY GOLDSTEIN and HELEN EAGAN, registered nurses, are on board to lake care of anyone who slips on Sandy ' s highly polished decks. Three blasts on the whistle indicate that we will soon be arriving in Nome, Alaska to refuel. Captain HAROLD RARNES suggests that we go ashore and see what we can see. And we see that JOHNNY WALOR and PAUL WALLACE, co-owners of a firm that builds igloos on Coney Island, looking for some ice. LOUISE BOLLA and JACQUELINE PARAS seem to have lost their way. Don ' t they know the only males up here are the polar bears? BOB ELLISON and BILL CASS are poking holes in the ice and it looks like they ' re trying to catch some fish. Why that ' s not the reason at all. They’re making a place for BOB and PAUL WALKER to surface in their atomic powered submarine. BILL BUTTIMER is radioing ahead to Hawaii to see if the weather is clear so that GEORGE MANTSOURANI can fly us down for the Flower Festival. There goes BETTY BRYANT and SANDY BRETON. They’re up here scouting around for some fur pieces for Jordan Marsh in the hopes that LINDA BAKER will give them a promotion when they get home. JAMES GREEHY, DAVE TRACCHIA and FRANK TRABUCCO are getting in a little summer practice with their hockey before they enter the Olympic games in Cali- fornia. ‘•Mush. Mush.” PAUL DANJOU has arrived at the iceport with CYNTHIA KIRSTEIN in his dog sled taxi. She’s going to Hawaii to judge a Beauty Contest. The plane should be ready by now. Yes, here it is. PAUL EDELSTEIN has just finished refueling it with non-carbonated gasoline, one of the many fuels produced by his Chemical Company. Landing in Hawaii, THERESA WALOR greets us with leis of flowers. W ' onder why George gets two? Oh, dear. VIRGINIA PYBURN, famous roller coaster tester, was hit on the head by a pineapple but POLLY PYZLUKA and SUE MacDOUGALL come to the rescue with their trustry first aid kits which contain everything from iodine to lipstick. CATHY STEPENUCK and AMY XANTHAKIS are quite excited over utilizing pineapple stems for hats. They hurry away to get a patent on their idea, before other hat designers catch on. Cathy and Amy are positive that with SHERRY PEARL’s legal advice no one will crash the market before them. WINIFRED FOSS tries to sell us a pair of Bermuda shorts — hut ELLEN FOLSOM and JUDY BLAKE, leading fashion designers for one of Paris ' most exclusive stores, grab them first. JOANNE GLOWACKI, ROBERTA JACOBS, and CAROLE W ALSH have opened up a grass skirt factory on the outskirts of town. DOROTHY BELL and MARCIA DEVARENNES. official greeters for Hawaii, are sorry they missed our plane but they gave us the key to the city. RAY DANIELS, Governor of the island and also part-time musician in one of the many steei bands to be found in Hawaii, also extends his welcome. JOHN BRODERICK and JOHN GLENCROSS are picking pineapples in a nearby tree for their pineapple factory. CAROL GODDESS and RITA HARKINS wave to us from their surf boards. They’re currently working as secretaries to the Governor. “Hey girls! Watch out for the speed boat.” Whoops, too late! WALTER PYBURN has upset our two friends with his little green speedboat. But he can’t stop to repair the dam- age because he’s competing with JOHN O ' HARA in the National Speedboat races. From here it looks as though there’s going to be a tie. Before we leave, CYNTHIA PIETRASZK and JOANNE COLE, professional dancers, do a number for us under the palm trees. Although we enjoy going around the world and meeting our friends we must get back to our jobs. The boat for San Francisco has just docked in Pearl Harbor. GEORGE SELLIOS offers to take us on one of his guided tours of the island but we have to refuse him because time is running short. Our trip back is a pleasant one. Coming in to San Francisco we spot GARY MERRITT and RONALD WALTERS washing windows on the eighth floor of an apartment building. But it looks to us as though they’re really trying to catch a glimpse of NANCY WILSON and JEAN GAGNON who are contestants in the Miss Universe Contest. We notice that PAT MULLARKEY is running a love- lorn column in the local newspaper much to the approval of our avid reader with the dark sun glasses, PAT DZIERZAK. Pat is relaxing on the beach next to PAT JOHNSON. Wow! Look at the size of that diamond she ' s flashing. SHIRLEY TIMSON walks along the beach dis- tributing pamphlets so that everyone will come to her Beauty Shop. After registering in one of JUDY HEENAN’s many motels which stretch from Ipswich to California, we stop into JIMMY RING’s drug store for a double ice cream soda. We bump into LORRAINE DOWNING and LILLIAN HOLUK on their way back to work. They find that being a secretary for a famous movie actor is hard work. MARYELLEN MARCHEWKA and MARGRETTA SCARNEGIE are taking a coffee break at Jim’s drug store. They are PRESTON PRAMAS’ private secretaries. Preston is the proud owner of Bobo’s Bow-Tie Shop. In the early evening light we can see FRANK PETERS and RICHIE MOWBRAY adding the finishing touches to the Golden Gate bridge. My, what a masterpiece!?). A screech of tires brings us back to our senses and we can barely catch a glimpse of HORxYCE KABLE racing down 77 Sunset Strip. Since it will soon be dark, LEO OUELLETTE and MIKE COLLOTTI bring out their ladders and begin to light the street lights along the Boulevard. DOLORES BASSARAS and ELZA BETTENCOURT pass us on the sidewalk. There aren’t any famous celebrities around tonight who want to sign their autograph books. It’s been a wonderful vacation for both of us. But, we must return to our respective homes. BONNIE MAKELA and BARBARA SUDAK are at the travel agency, ready to sell us our plane tickets home, perhaps in a few years we’ll go on another trip and meet all our classmates again. Who knows? We are extremely grateful to Mr. Arthur V. Johnson, who was in charge of this year book: Mrs. Eva Haines, art consultant; Miss Mary E. Luz, our competent financial advisor; and Mr. Edward T. Donahue, senior class advisor. Only through their patience and efforts was this publication possible. We wish also to express our gratitude to Principal Arthur J. Barry. Vice- Principal Timothy J. McCarthy, and the entire faculty whom we shall always remember as friends who uncomplainingly helped prepare us so well for the world we are now about to enter. We shall strive to justify the confidence they have placed in us. Now, as graduation approaches, we must leave this guidance and influence afforded by such friends, carrying with us pleasant memories of high school days and hopes that our fondest dreams will be realized.
