PEP RALLY Most students enjoyed the Pep rally and the spirit of the team and the band. Unfortunately, scheduling problems cancelled other planned pep rallies so it proved to be the one and only one for 1977. Students hope the next year will yield more pep rallies.

A CHANCE FOR GROWTH Do you remember when we were out of school some days? Those were profes- sional days. I had fun at home, but half of the time, I was bored. ! told i my mother I ' ll be glad to go back to school. She asked why. I told her I because I was bored and I was used to being in a noisy place. She started laughing . Cynthia Parham Having a professional day is a good idea; the kids have a chance to stay home and do whatever they want to do. Teachers can plan their next day ' s work and get new ideas from other teachers on how to improve or add to their teaching skills. Pete Gwaltney 97 T PROFESSIONAL DAYS AND NIGHTS helped teachers evaluate themselves, exchange points of view, and acquire new skills. Teachers were introduced to the metric system of measurement through small workshops using metric charts , scales, and well-informed instructors . Guest speakers were invited and small problem- solving discussion groups yielded valuable solutions. On other days, the faculty worked hard at solving the routine requirements of their profession. ONE MINUTE OF SILENCE During at least one minute of the day, students and teachers were able to pray or meditate in the public schools. By enactment of the General Assembly of Virginia and adoption by the Petersburg School Board , the right of every individual to the free exercise of religion was guaranteed in school, not as a religious service, but as an opportunity for silent prayer or meditation or a moment of silent reflection on the anticipated activities of the day. The quiet was refreshing. ACTIVITIES
