Peabody is not at all like any other junior high. It is different in more ways than one and I ' ll tell you why: The family of Peabody consists of over 1500 members, including faculty. Blessed with unity and togetherness . It ' s work and hard effort of each family member that makes Peabody the best. Of course, Peabody has its ups and downs; happiness and sorrow. But our family always looks to see the light of tomorrow. Like all things, our family is not perfect in every way. We have our good, we have our bad, but we do the best we can every day. We come to school in the morning with sleep still in our eyes. Then at the end of the day , we retire , thinking of The advice from our elders to make us wise . All in all, we are ONE big family. Pride is giving Peabody a roaring cheer. Pride is the classes to which we go , But mostly, it’s the smiles on our faces that glow. Pride is the lunch to which we fly . Pride is the onward look , toward the sky . Pride is the knowing of an educated child , But mostly, it ' s trying to learn a bit for a while. Pride is to enter the open doors and halls Pride is two semesters , Spring and Fall . Pride is the teams we set out to beat , But mostly, it ' s our six years of undefeat. Pride is the teachers , for without we could not make it . Pride is responsibility and we all agreed to take it . Pride is the student council , better known as SCA . But mostly , all of these will help us to see a better day . Pride is the headlines we accidentally set . Pride is the goals we’ve already met. Pride is the clubs we’ve formed one by one. But mostly, the standards we’ve set as day was done. Pride is the old PHS spirit . Pride is to let all the people hear it . Pride is the halls which are always full and loud. But mostly, it’s Peabody for which we are proud. So as the freshmen leave with all their feelings mixed , They proudly sign out as the Pride of ' 76. ’’ Donna Parham 55 SPECIAL EVENTS THAT OCCUR IN KTERSiURO ANNUAUY THE nEftSSURG AREA ARTS FESTIVAl - hald In Poplar Lawn Perk for tK« purpoM of promoting ort opprociation ond helping ortittt. Under every hat you ' ll see Mr. Cool, Either in a car , or playing pool . There are hats for the ones that are shy , Who wear them almost over their eye . There are hats that sit up high , But they are for the Super Fly. So get your hat , and wear it proud And you will be one of the crowd . Whether summer or fall , winter or spring , You ' ll see hats are still the thing. Cynthia Edmonds Chris Foreman We feel that male students should be allowed to wear hats in scho ol because they make us look more attractive. Hats are in style and they match what we ' re wearing today. They give us personality. They make us feel good, proud, and cool. Hats help us belong to the new generation. Since they don ' t harm anyone, we should be allowed to wear what we want. Women wear hats, why can ' t men? 86 STUDENTS FOR HATS STUDENTS AGAINST HATS Denise Jackson Pricilla King Jerry Powell Horace Smith Cindy Wells Katherine Wells Deanna Williams Ernest Vaughn Andre Montgomery Cynthia Edmonds Chris Foreman Orelon Morris Regina Shands Jocie Rager Jaqueline Winfield Eddie Lilley Timothy Byrd Annette Phelps HAT9 OFF DEMURRING OF HATS Hats are here , hats are there , hats are everywhere . Makes people think, What ever happened to their hair? For what reason do they wear them; I ' ll never know. I wish for someone to please tell me so. I wonder if those people ever get hot; 1 mean , wearing those ridiculous hats a lot . Hats are worn even when it ' s warm. Oh, that ' s so silly. They shouldn ' t be worn unless it ' s cold or chilly. If only I could have my own way with hats. I ' d collect them all and they ' d be thrown to the rats. If I could only do so , then that would be the end of that . And the world would look better Without each unnecessary hat. Cynthia Edmonds Chris Foreman We feel that male students should not be allowed to wear hats in school because we don ' t need a hat to look good. Hats are usually worn to hide dirty or messy hair. Just keep clean, hair neat, and be yourself. Choose something else to match your clothing. Hats probably won ' t stay in style. A hat cannot bring out the real you , you have to do that by yourself. A man should be a man, and a gen- tleman does not wear head coverings indoors. I have found that the removal of a hat inside the building is a matter of personal courtesy. Of course, hats do not interfere with learning, and to a certain extent, I would prefer seeing a hat as opposed to some heads. However, the wearing of hats has increasingly become an act of rebellion to old customs rather than for warmth or looks. My feel- ing is that school is a place where personal grooming, and personal values should be developed and encouraged, I feel confident that a president of a company, where one may apply for a job, would be offended at seeing a hat perched on one ' s head. 88 MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Stephanie Holmes John Nunnally MOST INTELLIGENT Marsha Carpenter Jeff Bubier MOST SCHOOL SPIRITED Dominga Barboza Ricky Grays CLASS CLOWN Melvina Leech CLASS CLOWN Algernon Cooper NINTH GRADE CLA99 9UPERLATIVE9 BEST DRESSED Linda Collier Mack Pulliam BEST OF FRIENDS Norene Todt Susan Spickerman CLASS LOVERS Wanda Davis Ricky Miller CLASS LOVERS Mary Johnson Ronald Riddle 89 MOST POPULAR Jackie Williams Scotty Harvanek BEST LOOKING Ann Herring BEST LOOKING Joe Barnett MOST ATHLETIC Darryl Stith MOST ATHLETIC Annette Smith 90 YEARBOOK DELIGHT 1 patient publisher 1 bu. spicy faces 30 generous merchants 109 tolerant teachers Preheat staff to 450 ideas per minute. Diane Barnes TIMID It seems that the teachers are as timid as we are; willing to talk, but not saying much. After the class is almost over, it seems we are just swinging into it. On the second and third day, everything seems to run smoothly. Melanie Perry LONELY I m shy and really don ' t know how to act around strangers. Later I’ll learn that people are people even though we are strangers. Karen Lambert A JOKE Most of the students you know are good jokers, and it ' s nice to start the day with some fun. Cynthia Edmonds EA9Y We don ' t have homework, so we just sit around and talk. Bobby Stovall FUN because you will have to look for your class and you don’t know which way to turn to get there. Sharon Jones TROUBLE because when everyone first comes in the room, you will have to check your schedule and go through all that handing out of papers and registration cards for everyone to sign. Deanna Williams 9URPRI8ING because you want to know the classes you’re going to have, the teachers, and whether or not your friends will be in any classes with you. When you get your schedule you ' re even more surprised because you get one of the electives you wanted and one of the required classes. Cynthia Edwards. EXCITING because you get to meet new friends and old ones. The day gets more exciting because you get to meet all the teachers you don ' t know , and you get to see if they are good or bad. Richard Caple 92 CAREFREE I like to joke , sing and play with people on the first day because it seems everyone feels free to do so, thinking you can ' t get in trouble or suspended on the first day. Most students think this way and try to take advantage of it. Chris Foreman PURP08ELE9S because the teacher always announces the rules she has made up and as the school year rolls along, you find that she just wasted her breath. Jo Ann Moody BORING because you don ' t know anyone . So you just sit and be quiet. Scott Survello MIXED UP since we ' re not on the regular bell schedule , you never know when the bell will ring so you can get out of class . Sherri Stutz blHUUMiyU My second semester teaching schedule wasn ' t at all like I had planned. M. Goodmansen QUICK It seems like the day goes by so fast. But the other days go so slowly. Theresa Wood DULL because you don ' t know that many folks. Melinda Clark DI90RGANIZED Some students lose their class EXCITING When I get my schedule , I schedules and are staggering around the halls trying to find like to see what classes I have. I go to class their new classes. Susan Wilde and check out the teacher and the students. I decide who I want to sit near. Some people talk a lot and are interesting to listen to , but sometimes they cause me to not do my work. Jacqueline Winfield 8CARY It ' s easy to get lost.
