Who would be the 1979-80 Homecoming Queen: Janelle Stucky, Lani Woodruff, or Rachelle BrenzAkofer? Spirit seemed to be 1 on everybody's list the whole week, but the juniors won $35 for having the most spirit, from Peabody's Chamber of Commerce. Excited faces could be seen when Friday's game came around, and Lani Woodruff was crowned queen. Peabody played a tough game against Inman, losing only by two touchdowns. Score was 21-7. Losing did not put a damper on the night activities. Everyone still enjoyed the dance, with music provided by Coyote, in the PES Multi-Purpose Room. The theme, Make Me Smile , was carried throughout the night on the faces of all the kids. Everybody really getting down on Coyote's music. On October 13, 1979, PHS had their big money-making project. The goal of $15,000 was set, but though it was not reached, they did make $3,000. The money that each individual brought in was divided into the organizations in which each was a member. Besides making money, it also gave the community a chance to get to know the students better, and to do things with them. It seemed that most everyone had a lot of fun participating in biking, jogging, walking, caliscenics, hockey, cider drinking, and other events. 35 n I TER ihi Lim T Rachelle Brenzikofer, 30, loses a pass that Lucille Carson was suppose to get to her. Warriors 66, Wildcats 64. The game seemed to set the mood for the dance that followed, in the Multi-Purpose Room at the grade school. The theme for the night was Just The Way You Are. Music for the dance was provided by Larry's Disco from Newton. Galen Roberts is really getting into the music at the Queen of Courts dance. Curly hair was seen a lot at PHS. Plaid skirts were a big thing with the girls. This year it seemed that more people enjoyed dressing up. Kris Strotkamp and Donna Suffield strut their feathers, their feathered back hair, that is. Clogs were really in this year; just about every girl had a pair. Ricky Mellott, Patsy Dallke, Katie Parrish, and Lisa Clark show off those comfortable overalls. Sometimes the students at PHS got tired of always studying; so they liked to go out and socialize with friends, go and listen to concerts, or take their girl or guy out to look at the stars. An opinion poll taken showed that kids tuned in the radio to hear songs like Babe and Another Brick in the Wall. They enjoyed listening to groups like Styx, Kansas, the Bee Gees, and Pink Floyd. Their favor- ite TV shows were Dukes of Hazard and Dallas. When Animal House, Little Darlings, and Kramer vs. Kramer, which won an academy award for best picture, were showing at the theater, the majority of kids went to see them. Look at those Legs! Tight Levis and plain pocket jeans were worn by just about every guy and girl. Charlene Martinez, Faunetta Bloomer, and Nancy Hall wear a classical concert t-shirt. On May 26, 1980, the juniors paid their tribute to the senior class by giving the Prom. The theme for the Prom was In the Heart of the Night'.' The banquet started at 7:00 and Daytha Langenegger provided the entertainment. The dance started at 9:00 with music provided by Mark Ward from Mid America Disco in Wichita. His strobe light and light show really showed off the decorations which were blue and silver metallic. The fog machine went neat with slow dancing. The dance ended at 12:00. The juniors rented the theater at Newton and took the seniors to see Electric Horseman after the Prom. In the foreground, Lee Becker wears a toga, who would have ever thought? Too dressed up to get up and boogie! Everyone who went to the Prom seemed to really en- joy dressing up and going dressed in style. Mike Whisler was one of the many who wore togas. Mr. Larry Schaffer from Brown Mackie College in Salina spoke to the hon- ored students at the banquet. It is an honor and a privilege to be on scholarship. It is considered a big achievement at PHS. To be eli- gible for scholarship you have to maintain an average grade of 3.5 for all four nine weeks.
