JAZZ ENSEMBLE LEFT TO RIGHT: Albert Throckmorton, Gary Koch, Pierre Cubbage, Stephan Clark, Jenny Morgan, David Glassner, Lynn Preheim, Mike Hodges, David Harder, Mr. Robert Marshall, Danny Farr, Jeff Mellott, Brad Laramore, Janelle Stucky, Jamie Crawford, Bernice Preheim, Koni Krause, Jeanne Martin, Brenda Gillet, Galen Roberts. The Jazz Ensemble consisted of some of the best musicians in the high school band. In January the Jazz Ensemble attended a performance Jazz Clinic at Hutchinson Junior College. This clinic included groups from leading high school music programs in the Wichita-Hutchinson area. In February the PHS Jazz Ensemble opened the events at the sixth annual Central States Jazz Festival at Kansas State University. Nearly 30 junior high and high school modern groups were invited from a wide area of the state; however, Peabody was the only group from the MKL or CVL at the festival. During their annual spring tour, the PHS Jazz Ensemble played at Cheney in the morning and at Fair- field High School in the afternoon. Their last performance was the annual Jazz Ensemble dance. Six PHS instrumentalists were chosen for the District Band which includes students from all size schools in the district, including Wichita, Hutchinson, and other large schools in the area. Those selected for the Honor Band were David Glassner, bass; Albert Throckmorton, trumpet, and Galen Roberts, contra- bass clarinet. Selected for the second band were Mike Hodges, bass, Jamie Crawford, alto saxophone, and Koni Krause, tenor saxophone. Jamie Crawford, saxophone, and Albert Throckmorton, trumpet, were accepted for membership in the United States Collegiate Wind Band, a highly selective musical organization which will make a concert tour of seven European countries during July and August, 1977. 27
