Each girl attending was sponsored by a local American Legion Auxiliary Post. The week was spent learning about our state government. INSTRUMENTAL AWARDS The Peabody Instrumental Department came home from State Music Festival at Fhnporia with top honors. The High School Band received a I rating in tough competition. But even more important than the rating, according to Band Director Marshall, was the professional attitude displayed by the Peabody students. It was obvious to all present that our group was PROUD to be representing Peabody and to be part of such a quality band. It was chosen as the Junior Play of 1974 and was directed by Mrs. Rucker. The sur- prise ending was a hit with the audience. The cops are coming--grab 'em. Paula Warkentine signs the Membership Book at the induction ceremonies. I HONESTLY LOVE YOU The theme of the Junior- Senior Banquet and Prom was I Honestly Love You. The setting was a summer garden complete with a fountain which sprayed water into a gold fish pool throughout the evening. A high school vocal group sang The Way We Were and I've Got a Name for the after-dinner program. In keeping with tradition. Senior class president, Jere Myers, presented the class talisman to Junior class president. Chuck Strotkamp. During the prom, everyone enjoyed dancing to the Ginger Blues, a band from Newton. After the prom, students went to the Fox theater in Newton to see the movie, Towering Inferno. ATHLETICS WARRIORETTE CLUB The Warriorette Club held a skating party in March at ElDorado which was attended by over 50 students. The annual Fun Night was again a success with many booths and prizes. As a farewell to seniors, the girls bicycled to Marion Lake for an over- night campout. They sponsored the Homecoming and Queen of Courts ceremonies. A KEYN Disc Jockey was the main attraction at the Queen of Courts Dance. The groups also co-sponsored a fund raising night with Senior- Faculty games, and a talent show rounded out the year's activities. The lovely queen candidates, Sharon Lefever, Kim Avery, and Cheryl Buller were driven onto the field by David Nellans, as the PHS Warrior Band, under the direction of Mark Schmidt, played the hit song, Top of the World. Then as the band played Yesterday, Becky Holm announced the name of the Queen, Sharon Lefever. After the game, the queen, attendants, and escorts presided over the annual homecoming dance. Right: Greg Topham, who was the most consistant distance runner this Spring, set 2 new records at PHS. He ran the mile in a record time of 4:30.4; the old record was 22 year's old. Greg placed 1st in both the mile and 2-mile at the Regional Meet. He placed 7th in the State Meet in the 2-mile and set a new school record with a time of 10:05.
