Let us observe each member and their activities. SALLY GAINES’ training in general business helped her. She is chief secretary and human guinea pig at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. PAM HERBERT has been named the second Antoine Lavoisier in the field of chemistry. Pam has a laboratory in Florida where she works on new chemicals. FRANK CORNELIUS is owner and manager of the Mexico City Dodgers. That was the only city in the world that would have them. PAT BROOKS is a house cleaner, deluxe. “Housecleaning -- Reasonable rates.” SHARON WINTER owns one of the greatest meat industries in Kansas. She makes the best sausage in the state. JIM ETTER got a job with an equipment agency in Peabody and now owns and operates ten branch stores in Kansas. LEON HEDRICK runs one of the largest golf courses in the nation. Even Ike flies to Kansas to play golf. MARILYN COX is the PHS secretary when she isn’t looking after her boys. JIM COX is sales manager at Ross’ Food Liner. He doesn’t deliver milk to the school now that he has been promoted. JOHN JACOBS left the country for the South Pacific and now runs a resort for tourists. SHIRLEY HERBISON keeps busy with housekeeping and cooking for herself, George, Junior, a cat, dog and a parakeet. CAROL BULLOCK is the bookkeeper at Hedrick’s Golf Course. JOAN ENGEL lives in Herington where she works part time. On Sunday she is concert pianist with the Kansas City Symphony. GENE EDMONDS motivated the Robot-Gentleman farming idea. Robots even spank the kids. GARY MOTT went “trumpet” after graduation and is known as The Trumpeteer in the United States. He has made many successful recordings. MARY PALMER settled, in the field of commerce, on the lap of her boss. JOANN MELLOTT runs an H. A. (Hair Arranger) shop in Hillsboro. DICK CARR graduated from K.U. and settled down at Cape Canaveral to learn rocketry, but coaches more basketball than rockets. JANET DAVIS is a kindergarten teacher. She had always said she would never marry but we didn’t believe her. Of course, we were right. LYNNE KOTTWITZ is the author of the lovelorn column in the New York Times, “Do You Have Man Trouble?” LORETTA SCRIVNER has been teaching the third grade for fifteen years. She just can’t seem to be promoted to the fourth grade. ELDON BRITTON manages a kennel for raising dachshund dogs. “Foot Long Dogs-- Only $5.00 per Dog.” JEAN DEFOREST is the President of the United States. She got us out of one of the greatest depressions in history by cheating the Democrats out of the job. CARL BENTZ heads Explosions, Incorporated. His motto: “Anyone for a popping good time?” ’59 Class Will We, the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-nine, being of seemingly sound mind and body; and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain, publish, and declare this to be our last Will and Testament; hereby revoking all other and former Wills made by us at any time. CARL BENTZ wills his ability to get acid, as well as other chemicals, on his hands and in his mouth during chemistry lab periods to Don Good. And Don, you're welcome to all the odors, too. ELDON BRITTON wills his ability to goof around in the locker room to Gary Harper. Do you really need any more goofs'' in the locker room? PAT BROOKS wills all of her boy friends to Frances Saenz. What are you going to do with them, Frances? CAROL BULLOCK wills her ability to laugh at Mr. Nettleton’s jokes to Donna Haas. Make wise use of that%Donna; it helps on your grade card. DICK CARR wills his passion for Kansas State to Jon Gard. Be sure to see those Wildcats in action, Jon! FRANK CORNELIUS wills the Dodgers to Korb Johnston if he will promise to give them back. You'll promise, won’t you, Korb? JIM COX wills his World History knowledge to Dale Britton. You'll be much better off without it, though. MARILYN COX wills her freckles to Carolee Mellott. That seems to be just what she needs. JEAN DEFOREST wills the drum section to anyone who will take it. What, you mean someone will take it? If Mr. Ensign had known that, he would’ve given it away long ago! GENE EDMONDS wills his ability to chase women to Gary Harper. How about that. Harper? Do you need any extra ability in that category? JOAN ENGEL wills her passion for cokes to Pat Hess. Better watch it, Pat, you might become a Cokeoholic!’’ JIM ETTER wills his American History book to Dean Fast. Maybe it will bring you more luck than it brought Jim. SALLY GAINES wills her old Ford to Jon Gard. Now you’ll be riding in style, Jon! LEON HEDRICK wills his history book to Mr. Ross. Doesn’t Mr. Ross have enough of those already? PAM HERBERT wills her nicknames to anyone who can stand them. Could that be possible ? SHIRLEY HERBISON wills her ability to give a successful speech to Joy Riddiough. What ability, Shirley? JOHN JACOBS wills his nickname, SpooK, to Gary Harper. Be sure to spell it with a capital K, Gary. LYNNE KOTTWITZ wills her ability to solve everyone's problems except her own to Gary Highfill. Make sure that talent doesn’t get you into too much trouble, Gary. JANET DAVIS wills her twirling ability to Joyce Uphoff. Make use of that ability and you might even get her twirling class, too! JOANN MELLOTT wills her height to Cheryl Johnson. Now those tall girls who play basketball won't giv© you any trouble, Cheryl. GARY MOTT wills his ability to go steady with one girl to Jim Johnston. Someone should have willed him a girl, first! MARY PALMER wills her old school books to Kay Schiffner and Sharon Bartel to keep them out of mischief. Do you really think it will help, Mary? LORETTA SCRIVNER wills her saxophone chair to Leslie Collins. May it support you always. SHARON WINTER wills her old boy friends to Mary Stucky. What are you going to do with them, Mary? In Witness thereof, the Senior Class of Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-nine imprints the seal of Peabody High School and affixes it’s signature hereto on the Twenty-ninth day of May in the year of our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-nine. cy? t.sQsrls President __i s ''Z------------------------ y r) _ Secretary Underclassmen The main objective of the Junior Class is spon- soring the Junior-Senior Banquet. On Sunday morning, June 1, the San Francisco Chief stopped at 3:03 a.m. to pick up 13 seniors and Mr. and Mrs. Kerr--destination Washington, D.C. A few of the kids got a little train sick, but by the time we arrived in Chicago at Dear- born Station at 2:30 p.m. everyone was feeling fine. We were transferred to Union Station by buses where we had a 20 minute lay-over before we boarded the Baltimore and Ohio R.R. for Washington, D.C. Also at Union Station were high school students from Minnesota, Wis- consin, and Iowa. As we traveled on East, we picked up students through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. C.T. Birckwedal, the B. O. Railroad representative met us in Chicago and toured with us until on Tuesday, when he went on to New York City with another group. Then Thomas Johnson joined us and continued touring with us until we went back to Chicago. We arrived in Washington at 9:40 a.m. on Monday, Eastern Daylight Time. We were immediately transferred to a D.C. transit sightseeing bus and were introduced to our driver, Bernie O’Mahoney, who was also our sightseeing guide for the three days we were there. Our first stop was at the U.S. Capitol. Here we visited Statuary Hall and in the balconies of the House and Senate Chambers, besides other points of interest. Outside again a com- mercial photographer took our picture on the capitol lawn with the dome in the background. We boarded the buses again and went to Lincoln Memorial, then on to Arlington National Cemetery, where we witnessed the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 12:00. Then we progressed on to Old Alexandria for Lunch at the Old Club, and then on to the home of George and Martha Washington, Mount Vernon. On the return trip to Washington and our hotel, the Blackstone, Bernie pointed out other points of interest. That evening we went to the Casino Royal night club for dinner and the floor show. Bobby Darin and Joe E. Ross were there appearing in person. At 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday we ate breakfast at Sholl’s cafeteria and then boarded our bus for touring again. In the morning we visited the Bureau of Printing and Engraving, Washington Monument, White House, Archives Building and Jefferson Memorial. At 1:30 we had an appointment at the F.B.I. headquarters which was the highlight of the tour for many of us, then on to the Supreme Court, Congressional Library and Smithsonian Institution Museums. Since it had been raining all day we decided to go to the South Sea Cinerama instead of taking a boat ride on the Potomac. On Wednesday Morning we ate breakfast with Representative Ed Rees in the speakers dining room. Walton Hoyt, Gladys Hoyt’s brother, also had breakfast with the group. After breakfast we had our picture snapped on the House wing of the Capitol with Mr. Rees. Then we visited the new Senate office building where Senator Andy Schoeppel’s office is located. Mr. Kubitz, Administrative Assistant to Senator Schoeppel, took us on a much more extensive tour of the Capitol than we had had on Monday morning. We rode the subway between the Capitol and the new Senate office building and visited the House and Senate in session. We sat in the Vice-President’s chair in the Senate Chambers and saw Mr. Nixon in person walking down the same corridor with us. We also visited the President’s and Vice-President’s offices in the Capitol Building. At 4:00 p.m. we met in the lobby of our hotel and transferred to Union Station. Before leaving we went to the National Art Gallery and drove through Chinatown and the Washington slum. At 5:15 p.m. we left Washington on B. $ O.’s Columbian and arrived in Chicago at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. We had an hour layover before leaving on the Santa Fe Chief for Peabody. Twelve happy but tired seniors and two wonderful sponsors got off the train in Peabody at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Shirley Schultz rode on to Newton and got off there at 8:40 p.m. by Loretta Scrivner Pictured on the steps of the United States Capitol Building are: IN FRONT: Representa- tive Ed Rees.
