Q32 ive gjeahody like gnosf-Qyar Oyorfdii INCE the beginning of time man has been confronted with many perplexing problems, extending to the utmost his efforts to survive the misfortunes of economic strife, becoming involved in wars with his fellowmen to protect his very existence, and, overcoming many ob- stacles brought about by changing conditions. Through all of this his fortitude has been strengthenedland with Divine Guidance will continue to develop with the passing of time. In the dawning Atomic Age, we, the youth of America, will be offered greater opportunities than ever before-opportunities for the exercise of talent, creative ability and sheer willingness to solve the problems of life. Perseverance, self-reliance and initiative, depend- ability, thrift, honesty, and an understanding of human nature-those are the ingredients of success in any era, Whether it be the Atomic Age or the horse and buggy period. But more than anything else the road to success is paved with hard work. Real achievement rarely comes easily, and this is a lesson that youth learns early. No matter what profession or business is our eventual goal, we will find these opportunities mounting on the horizon and if we apply the basic principles of success to our life we will find the gates to achievement wide open. The world we live in-and the tools We use-may change in many dramatic ways, but, the rules of success are the same as they were in the days of Abraham Lincoln and Thomas A. Edison, of Andrew Carnegie and Henry Ford, and of Mark Twain and Richard Harding Davis, of Benjamin Franklin and Robert Fulton. Let no one tell us that opportunity is a thing of the past in this land of ours. America abounds in richer opportunities than ever before. Opportunities waiting for ambitious young men and women. With these thoughts in mind we, the graduating class, give to Peabody High School, The Post-war World. 19
