isforg of eabody Selma! In 1908 the Usceola High School was established as a branch of Old Central High School. One year later the l.incoln High School was established as another branch. Both schools were continued until 1911. when they combined to form Peabody High School, This new school occupied the addition to the Klargaretta firannnar School building. The grade pupils were later transferred to the new Rogers and Dilworth Schools. There were 750 students enrolled the first year. Several years later so many students wished admittance. and so crowded was the school. that it was necessary to build on the ground in the rear, gi long row ol' portables to relieve the congested conditions. The portables proved unsatisfactory. ln warm weather. they were very hot: in winter terribly cold. Finally. the interior of the Scliool building was entirely remodeled. and the portables abandoned. liach year the number of students entering school conf tinued to increase, and in 1923 after an enormous sum had been provided. work on the large addition to Peabody High School was begun. lt was ready for use in September of the year 1925.
