PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Dear Seniors, We hear so much these days about the conquest of outer space and unexplored planets until one ' s thoughts might become a bit diffused — if not confused — about the necessity for continuing to keep one ' s eye on the things at hand. Recently I was interested to read a very stabilizing statement, written three centuries ago, by Pascal, A French philosopher and mathematician. He had this to say: It is not from space that I must seek my dignity, but from the government of my thought. I shall have no more if I possess worlds. By space the universe encompasses and swallows me up like an atom; by thought I comprehend the world . Seniors, thinking from Pascal ' s point of view, which I am sure must be the point of view of many in this great nation of ours, today may we settle down a bit more peacefully to the things at hand knowing that the government of my thought will always constitute the true government of the world. CLYDE S. SCOTT
