A good band consists of a capable director, a Willing group of students, and the stamina to do a good iob. We feel that Payson High's band has all these qualities. Under the direction ot J. D. Christensen, the band started the year with a marching contest in Provo. Later on, a pep band played' at football and bas- ketball games. At Founder's Day they vvere also heard, and their help was greatly appreciated in the dance revue. In April, the band attended the Band Festival. The Future Farmers of America began the school year by inducting new members. After the induction a very successful party was held. During the summer, an over-night horseback trip was conducted. On November 26, the F.F.A. sponsored a studentbody assembly. That night they held the annual Turkey Strut where Christine Walton was introduced as Chapter Sweetheart with Judy Done and Marda Hartvigsen as attendants. Christine later represented the chapter in the state sweetheart contest. On March 13 Richard Jackson partici- pated in the area contest for the S300 Standard Oil of California Scholarship. He won the area contest and was later selected as one of the five winners on the state level. On March 27-28 the chapter officers attended the state convention at the Hotel Utah Motor Lodge in Salt Lake City. There the chapter was awarded the Superior Chapter Award and Richard Jackson was awarded the State Farmer Degree, the highest rating given by the F.F.A. on the state level.
