Published by the Associated Students of Payson Senior High School, Payson, Utah Copyright, Nineteen Hundred and Fifty-seven Joe Liddle, Editor, Dennis Spencer, Associate Editor, Kayo Wilson and Keith Evans, Associate Business Managers -1- the .l'B2lrl10ok staff of Daysu Casting glances the first day of school we found many old friends who were returning, and strange faces - they must be the Sophomores. After a few short days looking in the classrooms we saw teachers and students hard at work. lndeed this was going to be a year of leadership and achievement. Soon we were seeing exciting football games with brightly colored autumn leaves in the back- ground as the cold nights turned greens to golds and reds. lt wasn't long until Frosty, the Snowman, paid us a visit. Looking out we saw our campus had been transformed into a mantle of white. As we were forced indoors our activities changed. Now we saw thrilling plays, a dramatic opera, and breath-taking basketball games. Peeking in the gym we saw it change to a beautifully decorated ballroom for our romantic dances, the Hop and the Prom. Now we see boy and girl strolling hand in hand, yes, a young man's fancy turns to love in the spring. Spring activities we enjoyed were the Dance Revue, tennis, track, and baseball. The days roll swiftly by, now it is graduation time. We saw long lines of seniors in caps and gowns receiving diplomas and the congratulations of their friends and classmates. Yes, we may look back on a year of accomplishments, but we must also look ahead to new horizons that are ours to conquer. To this goal we dedicate the 1957 Paysonian. 7.97 P3.YSOnian gm X 433' M' K zrahkk VWVVVA . ., Q is f' Ti DI' 'T . 1+ ff? ww , 4 rg-M35 w 7rrwg:.5ip4 , ww i-w'7 Lw' ga--j:,A ,954 :Q f V+- if 'W ::,,,..--iff ' ' K . x l 'l ln Memorium Mr. Jones, our principal, has gone from us- Slipped quietly away with very little fuss Even his leaving was typical of the way he lived his life, Quietly, uncomplainingly bringing peace where he found strife. For him no fanfare, no big parade Just working and planning with faith, unafraid Performing his duties with a pleasant srnine, 'Twas no bother for him, that second mile. And he, who was really great in our sight Was servant of all, ever working for right. And we're sure where he's gone, they have welcomed him And he's gone to work with vigor and vim! And we can't help thinking, as we shed a tear How blessed WE have been to have had him here And may we show by our lives each day That he helped us to find the better way. -R.. We feel that the year has really been a successful one and hope the future years will be the same. The Student Body Officers have done their best to fulfill their campaign promises by working to the best of their ability to make this a better school year for all. Much credit for the work done by the Student Council should go to our advisor, Mr. Sudweeks, whose very capable guidance contributed much to the success of the school year. Paul Staheli, our President, showed his fine qualities of leadership in a very capable way as he carried out his duties and responsibilities. His energetic spirit and keen sense of humor have really heiped to make this one of the best years old P. H. S. has ever had. Vice-President, Jimmy Yamisaki, worked hard planning and helping to make this year a success. His fine characteristics and personality contributed much to upbuilding of our school government. Through his many helpful ideas and hard work, he has fulfilled the iob as Vice-President successfully. Betty Jean Tanner, as Secretary, showed her ability in keeping records and giving freely of her ideas to make our school function better. With personality and charm she has become a favorite of the students. She has put forth an untiring effort through the past year. Carolyn Borgeson, our Business Manager for the past year, has capably taken over all the business procedures that have taken place within the Student Council. Her thoughtful remarks and witicism have brightened the lives of many and have helped in the success of the year by creating school spirit. She has a good sense of iudgement to take care of the business matters of our school and has done so successfully. -14- 11? Some of the memories that won't be forgotten are the Senior Hop and assembly. For the Hop the gym was beautifully decorated to the theme of Dream . All who attended agreed it was one of the year's most outstanding activities. The Class of 57 also enioyed Senior Sluft Day which was held in May. Finally, the Seniors are ready to leave dear old Payson High. It is a joyous occasion but many memories make us shed a tear or two. The Seniors climaxed the year by donning their caps and gowns and receiving their diplomas. Dance and music began many centuries ago to be a part of the cultural life of every country. This year's Dance Revue emphasized the dances that have given us a wonderful heritage. Starting with the Indian Native, Court and Folk dances we moved through the years to Modern Creative and Ballroom dance. A fine orchestra and chorus group under the direction of J. D. Christensen set the mood and musical backbround for the dances. The Senior class received wonderful cooperation from the Junior and Sophomore girls and a number of very fine boy dancers. Joe Lynn Spencer and Glen Bowers shared honors as Master of Ceremonies.
