These players have great hopes and it looks as though they have a chance to take the Region 3 championship. Eugene Hillman, their well qualified coach and instructor, has shown in the past that he is capable of developing a good team. lt looks as though he has another fine lot of athletes in the making. They have started the season off with a bang, and we know they are going to make Payson proud of them. Congratulations to a fine ball club. With the many fine returning lettermen and the promising iuniors and sophomores, the Pay- son Lions are bound to do it again.

Tmniix During the Ietup of snow, rain and wind, tennis was accepted wholeheart- edly by the teams. The boys practiced hard to make a good team. Under the supervision of Coach Verl Sudweeks. the Lions played five matches, one each with Provo, Carbon, Springville, Lincoln and Spanish Fork. The few experienced returning players and newly added material helped make tennis a big success. Payson played three home matches, one each with Provo, Carbon and Span- ish Fork. The tennis team is made up of three singles and two double teams. ,,.-.

Tumkamdlhld A With the arrival of spring many of our fine athletes began running around the cinder cycle in preparation for another track season, always having in mind the regional and state meets held later in the year. Every spring these boys strive to build their bodies' muscular action, re- flexes and coordination to such a degree that they are in top condition. These trackmen have set up in their hearts a goal to strive for, and through sheer de- termination and desire finally make the grade. Each boy must display to the best of his ability the position he is best adapted to on the team. Various events are open to them, and under the fine direction and instruc- tion of Donald Fuller they may one day be outstanding athletes. The Payson High School track and field team of 1956 is looking forward to another suc- cessful season in Region 3 competition. With some fine returning lettermen and many iuniors and sophomores showing great promise, the Lions should again make Payson High proud of them. -75-
