Front row lzeibl The Payson Lions, under the watchful eye of Coach Verl Sudweeks, exper- ienced a fine basketball season. Tanner, Warr, Jones, Clark, Holman. The Lions played well together as a team and had two quick wins at the start of the season. With the addition of Provo and Carbon to the Nebo divi- sion, Payson had a rough schedule but came out with three wins and seven de- feats. Payson showed many moments of brilliance but had some bad luck and did not make it to the state tournament. Mark Steele and Vern Tanner were co- captains for the year. The Lions have some fine boys returning and should have an excellent ball club for next year. -70-

Four matches were lost-one each to Car- bon, Provo, Delta and Cedar. ln the regional meet at Brigham Young University, Payson proved to be the strongest team by placing eight firsts, three seconds and one third. Those boys qualifying for the state competition were Wilson, Warner, Bradley, Bills, Nelson, Bowers, Schramm, Davis, Clark, Gay and Johnson. At state, Payson grabbed five places.
