G R A D U A T I O N 12 The Baccalaureate service was held on Sunday, May 29. The highlight of the evening was the traditional presentation of roses to the graduate s mothers. The Commencement ceremony was held on Friday, June 3, in the high school gymnasium. The program began as the senior band members joined the concert band for the last time to play That’s What Friends Are For. The senior class president, Karla Hartz, introduced the speakers of the class. The speakers and their topics were: Shelly Litwiller. academics; Shannon Marlar, extra-curriculars; Audra Hull, girl's sports; and Boris Jerchow, foreign exchange. Also speaking were: Anne Rinkenberger, extra-curriculars; and Allen Jarboe, boy’s sports; Daisuke Wada, foreign exchange; and Sue Meyer was the wind-up speaker. Following the presentation of diplomas, various awards and scholarships were presented. Anne Rinkenberger and Phil Meyer were runner-ups for the American Legion Award. Sue Meyer and Shannon Marlar received the American Legion Award. Shelly Litwiller became Exchange Club's Youth of the Year for 1988 and also received the Angela Greenwell Scholarship The Evelyn Wylie Burton Scholarship was given to Shannon Marlar. Anne Rinkenberger was presented the James Wallace Dunnan Scholarship and the National Honor Society Scholarship. The Jaycees Scholarship recipient was Mike Rapp. Special music performances were given by Maureen Loudermilk, who sang the solo We Have Only Just Begun, and Mike Reckowsky, Phil Meyer and J. L. Knell played the trumpet trio. Scherzo.” Although the class of '88 has left PHS behind, they will not be forgotten. The class has been through a lot together but they did not get discouraged; they learned how to work together and as a result gave new meaning to the word FRIENDSHIP ...
