 Twelve Angry Jurors by Sherman L. Sergal. It doesn't sound familiar, does it? You may be surprised, however, to find this play very familiar to you. The original title for this piece was Twelve Angry Men, and it was written as a television script by Reginald Rose in the 1950's. Still no help? Hmmmmm. Perhaps you have seen the Academy Award winning movie, Twelve Angry Men, which starred Henry Fonda. Lee J. Cobb, and E G. Marshall? No? Well, maybe you caught the Murder. She Wrote episode last year, in which Jessica Fletcher had to serve jury duty when a young man was on trial for murder? Missed it? Wow. Where have you been? The plot is deceptively simple Twelve ordinary people are called to decide the outcome of a six day murder trial. The case seems straightforward. An old man was the victim. His son, with whom he often fought, is on trial. The son's knife was proven to be the murder weapon There are two eye-witnesses. And, the son has no substantial alibi. As one juror puts it, This case is A. B, C. You will see no part of the murder during the play, nor will you see the trial. But, you will watch the decision made whether to allow the accused young man to walk away free of punishment, or be sentenced to death for the murder of his father.
