In Loving Memory of Richard Rundquist jcvo unido: Soy de I' Our lives consist of two qualities: WHAT WE EXPERIENCE and OUR LASTING MEMORIES of those experiences. In the time of death, It Is the first that we will miss — as friends, students, faculty, and staff, we will miss the everyday physical presence of Rick Rundquist. As his friend and school neighbor for sixteen years, I will miss seeing him standing In his classroom door waiting for the next class to pass; those who shared lunch with him on Fridays will miss the joy of the food that he prepared; students will miss his Interest and talk of fhe music of their generation and his detailed and well prepared dedication to teaching foreign languages. To me, my friend Rick Rundquist will always be: Eating a slice of pepperonl pizza at Papa Del’s Laughing at teachers like ourselves In the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” Listening to a rock group I don’t understand Smiling as he told a freshman, “This is no longer Junior high.’’ Recording times at a cross country meet Never passing a bookstore, record shop, or Baskln-Robblns without stopping. As Conrad Aiken said in his poem, “Bread and Music, “We may then come to understand the difference between experience and the memory of that experience. The poet says, Music I heard with you was more than music, And bread I broke with you was more than bread; Now that I am without you, all Is desolate Your hands once touched this table and I have seen your fingers on the glass These things do not remember you beloved — And yet your touch upon them will not pass. For it was In my heart you among them, And blessed them with your hands and with your eyes: And In my heart they will remember always — They knew you once, o beautiful and wise.
