Neil Simon wrote his play The Last of the Redhot Lovers Also, the Dance Theater of Harlem ws established by Arthur Mitchell. As 1969 brought with it the end of an era for our parents, it presented them with a new adventure, bringing up a new generation of Mighty Mustangs. However, it was also a year of new beginnings. It saw the birth of Paxton High’s Class of 1987. A woman called Golda took office as the new Isreali president. Warren E. Berger began his 17 year reign as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, and a rookie colonel gained control of a small African country, Libia. He was called Moammar Khadafy. Also, the United States jumped ahead of the Soviets in the space race with Neil Armstorng’s “small step for man, giant leap for mankind. 1969 was also a busy year in the courtroom as James Earl Ray and Sirhan Bishara Sirhan were convict- ed of slaying Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy respectively. Also, Edward M. Kennedy pled guilty to leaving the scene of an auto accident at Chappaquiddick Island. His passenger, Mary Jo Ko-pechne drowned.
