DEDICATION The 1980 Reflector is dedicated to Mr. Swengel who has dedicated twenty-six years of his life to teaching students who attended Paxton schools, eleven of those years at Paxton High School. This year was Mr. Swengel s last year of teaching. He has decided to graduate his teaching career with the Class of 1980. Mr. Swengel taught algebra, geometry, trigonometry, analytical geometry and that . . there's more than cnc way to kill a cat.” He has served as the sponsor of the National Honor Society for three years. Thank you Mr. Swengel forgiving us an excellent education and knowledge in mathematics. Mr. Swengel, a devoted teacher and National Honor Society sponsor. Mr. Swengel has always been known to give interesting tests. STUDENTS When I left a year ago for Argentina I didn't know what I'd gotten myself into. The first few months were spent just trying to communicate. I used sign language, drew pictures, and made noises just to get others to understand. As the months passed I began to understand and be understood by others. Once the language barrier was broken the year flew by. It was a wonderful experience for me. When it was time to leave 1 had mixed feelings, I was sad to be leaving, but happy to be coming home. Now that I'm back with family, friends, and back in PHS it feels GREAT!!!!! Its really nice to be back home. LORI DENISE WATTS Waiting for your cue Mike? A smile of perfection! I remember my first days in the United States as one big confusion because I was so excited about getting to know a lot of new people and new things, hardly understanding anything of this language. But very soon I started feeling at home in this country, encouraged by the friendly and helpful attitude which all the Americans showed. It is exciting to discover a new way of life with different customs, a different school, different food, etc. I especially enjoyed the many sports activities which schools in my country don't offer and the Band where I was taught how to make music (or noise) on the xylophone. 1 was also a member of the NHS and, of course the AFS Club. This year is a wonderful year for me in every way. and I want to thank the Paxton High School , my host family and all the students and teachers for everything they did to make it an experience I will never forget. I hope that you will come to Switzerland sometime to visit me, giving me a chance to return your great hospitality. During this week students were encouraged to participate in various events designed to lift school spirit for Homecoming. Several Assemblies such as Larry Daniels (a black belt karate expert) and Reed Lewis (who retravelled LaSalle's journey), were presented by the Student Council. We also sponsored the P.H.S. Your hard work, determination and willingness to learn were real keys to achieving this standard of excellence. This has been a very special season for myself because I've seen a group of young ladies and gentlemen grow from a mediocre marching unit into a mature musical marching machine. 1 wish to congratulate each one of you on your accomplishments and your undivided pursuit of excellence. Only those of you who went through this experience will truly appreciate the spirit and teamwork involved in building a unit of this nature. Good luck in all future endeavors. I hope that your training in band will give you the pride to all do a job the best way you can. Each page was carefully constructed. The members often had to redo their pages until it was right. The staff sold advertisement spaces to local businessmen to raise money. They also sold Christmas wrapping paper and Valentine's Day carnations. The colored senior picture was an expensive endeavor, but well worth the effort. We hope that you enjoy this yearbook and that it will bring fond memories of Paxton High School in the years to come. Mrs. Emerick, our Sponsor. Kris is busy at work, blowing bubbles.
