— The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time Any fool can do it There ain't nothing to it Nobody knows how we got to The top of the hill But since we're on our way down We might as well enjoy the ride The secret of love is in opening up your heart It's okay to feel afraid But don't let that stand in your way 'Cause anyone knows that love is the only road And since we're only here for awhile Might as well show some style Give us a smile Isn't it a lovely ride Sliding down Gliding down Try not to try too hard It's just a lovely ride Now the thing about time is that time Isn't really real It's just your point of view How does it feel for you Einstein said he could never understand it all Planets spinning through space The smile upon your face Welcome to the human race James Taylor REFLECTOR 1979 Volume 75 Presented by the Reflector Staff Paxton High School Paxton, Illinois Co-Editors Nancy Anderson Cindy Laszar Advisors Mrs. Emerick Mrs. Frisbie This is the Reflector's 75th year of printing. Bob Larson Lisa Gritton Susan Woodworth 19 AFS Student Margarita Maria Tobar The first day I spent at PHS I couldn't open my locker, 1 couldn't find the second floor, I couldn't remember names or pronounce them, and I couldn't even speak English. But I didn't feel worried because there were so many people to help me. I enjoyed the school activities in which I participated. Student Council, Mental Health Club, NHS, and AFS Club. I have also enjoyed the activities that I get to watch, especially, football, because I had never seen it before. Homecoming is a very special memory for me, and every October I shall think of working on the float, the parade, the football game, the dance, and being crowned queen. It was a great honor to be the 78-79 queen. Thank you for giving me an honor I will cherish all my life. 1 am happy that one of my classmates, Lori Watts, will be having the AFS experience this year in Argentina. My greatest wish for her is that her family, school, teachers, and friends will be as wonderful as mine in Paxton. I want to thank each and every one of you for making this a memorable year. I will always remember what we have shared together. Please come to Bucaramanga to visit me so that I can return your hospitality. w . . . 20 21 Senior Honors Homecoming Queen Candidates Penny Burnett Laurie Kingston lanice Shallenberger Homecoming King Candidates Ed Phillips Richard Seibring Jin Swick Homecoming Queen Margarita Tobar Homecoming King Andy Newsom Daughter of the American Revolution Grace Niewold Son of the American Revolution Kurt Smith Honor Thespians Pat Annis Susan Gustafson Marita Hustedt Debbie McCann Sandy Rasmus Chris Sherwood Music Awards Pat Annis - vocal Renee Brue - vocal Pam Carlson - vocal Barb Eaves - vocal Kim Elliott - instrumental Susan Gustafson - vocal Wendy Hinrichs - vocal Dan Horn - instrumental Marita Hustedt - vocal Connie Nuss - vocal Lori Peterson - vocal Debbie Roberson - vocal, instrumental lanice Shallenberger - instrumental Chris Sherwood - vocal Patty Smith - vocal Who's Who Among A. It shows State. District, and Local activities participated in by our Student Council members. Student Council has been very active this 1978-79 school year. Calendar sales started off the year. Full House was featured at the Homecoming Dance. Light Bulb sales were a good money making project. Booster stickers were sold at football games. A semester dance featuring Slipstream was a welcome break from the school routine. Student council members helped with the annual Heart Fund Drive. The District convention, held in Champaign, was a day of learning and fun for council members. Spring activities included a hypnotist, the second annual Gong Show, and State convention held in Chicago. 59 Blue Gold Staff: Pam Kirby, Lynn McCoy.
