From Sunset to Sunrise Behind the serenity and peacefulness of the park scene which characterized the 1972 prom, Sunset-Sunrise”, were many hours of meetings filled with suggestions, disagreements, and decisions - and more hours of decorating, building and rebuilding, flaring tempers, and inevitably, a super-successful prom. There, couples danced to music provided by an orchestra led by PHS's ex-band director, Paul Vander Gheynst. The coronation of seniors, Randy Swan and Diane Elson as king and queen, and Earl Volden and Carrie Stewart as prince and princess, highlighted the evening. As 11 o'clock drew near, couples left to attend the show at the Paxton Theatre, and the breakfast at the Lakeview Country Club. 12 Marty Nuss brings flowers to Queen Diane Elson as she and King Randy Swan reign over the '72 Prom. High School Ended in traditional PHS fashion for the 121 graduating members of the Class of 1972. Many seniors, as well as underclassmen, were honored on Class Day, May 26. New awards, in addition to the established ones, were presented to the outstanding athletes, scholars, and musicians of the Class of '72. Baccalaureate services were conducted the Sunday prior to commencement as usual. There, the graduates' mothers were given the traditional red roses. The finale of their high school careers, Commencement brought mixed emotions to the seniors. Both sadness and joy were evoked by leaving friends and teachers after an eventful four years, but the promise of a bright, inviting future overpowered the sentiment of the 1972 graduation. First 1972 graduates leave the gymnasium. Debbie Hudson straightens Adonica Iverson s tassel as the Class of 1972 prepares to enter the gym. 14
