Speech Music Contest Practice makes perfect, and both the speech and music contestants hoped that their practice would pay off at the contests held this year. The speech contest was held on February 17, in Pontiac. Paxton had entries in original monologue, verse reading, comedy reading, radio speaking, prose reading, oration, serious reading, and after-dinner speaking. Jane Anderson won a second place in prose reading, and went to Sectional, March 2, at Normal. State was at Springfield. The music contest took place in two locations. The organizational contest was held on March 18, in Monticello. The Girls’ Chorus participated in this competition. On April 20 the solo and small ensemble contest was held at Maroa.
