Charles C. Newman i ( (.) fra i o t 26 Mr. Shields, who is responsible for high school administration, has been Paxton’s principal for the past sixteen years. Mr. Newman, whose office is now located in the new high school, is Superintendent of Schools. Together they have had many problems to solve this year in making the adjustments necessary in a new building, with new equipment and a broader curriculum. New policies introduced by the high school administration this year include: A one-hour afterschool detention period for disciplinary purposes; hall duty performed by teachers before and during school hours; a shuttle bus service for students living in and near town; a closed campus during the lunch hour for all students eating at school; and the reorganization of the Student-Faculty Board. Louis Dulhigicumo , % 9Rt e nQAia m On a July morning in 1965, Mr. “D”, as he was known to his students, was killed in an automobile accident. At the news of his death, the students of Paxton High School and Mr. “D’s” many friends were deeply grieved. His presence will be missed, for although he was small in stature, his spirit was big in understanding and patience. The many people who were associated with him will well remember, for years to come, his short figure strutting through the halls of Paxton High School. Nor will they soon forget his gift of laughter, the twinkle of his eyes, and his love for and interest in people—all kinds of people. To perpetuate his memory, a scholarship fund has been set up to help a graduate in each of the next four years’ classes further his education. In this way, the memory of Mr. “D” will continue to serve as he did in life—helping people. 25
