Homecoming Snaps Homecoming—a maze of events happening in sequence. The float preparation was among the first events to take place. After the completed floats were paraded and judged, they stood on the football field, alone, for everyone was watching the dummy of Rantoul being thrown into the licking tongues of Paxton's fire. Later, at the dance held after the game, Connie Burklund, our queen, was escorted to her throne by football co-captains, Denny Short and Darrel Seim. The Queen’s court, Kathy Hustedt, Kathy Swanson, and Sheila Moulding, were escorted by Wayne Johnson, Denny Eichelberger, and Tim Schofield. Upper: Homecoming Court and their escorts. Floats Are A Part Of Homecoming In the float competition, the Freshmen received first place, with a Mustang resting his iron hooves on a pair of dice. The Junior class float, the Sophomore class float, and the Senior class train received 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places respectively. The clubs winning recognition were: the Drama Club, first place; the marching Pep Club, under the direction of Mrs. Benear, second place; and the hard-working Pep Band, third place. The members of the cast were: Linda Abrahamson, Priscilla Bradley, Russ Brown, Fred Carlson, George Carpenter, Melissa Dunnan, Charlene Fox, Mary Griggs, Bill Hansen, Joan Hardman, Mike Johnson, Patsy Mattingly, Kathy Rinkenberger, Carol Rollins, Doug Smith, and Ron Thompson.
