“Mt. Zion Burns” Homecoming There was a grand procession of bright color, blue and gold predominating. The chanting Pep Club marched around the bonfire. Everyone pressed closer to the fire watching eagerly, held in suspense —then, as Don Jones threw “Mt. Zion” into the fire, a long-awaited shout burst from everyone! The flames leaped up, consuming the dummy and casting a glow over everything. They touched each excited face with an orange glow. This spectacle was something to see. The floats stood off to the side, deserted but not forgotten. The Seniors finally captured the desired first place with their Mustang reared in triumph at the top of the Mountain—Mt. Zion. Sophomores, Freshmen, and Juniors received 3rd, 2nd, and 4th places respectively. 10
