senior play The Class of 1962 presented THE NIGHT IS MY ENEMY, by Fred Carmichael, on April 13, 1962. The play was directed by Carl Barth with Alice Lee Fox as student director. speech contest The District Speech Contest was held on February 16, 1963, at Champaign High School. The following people participated in the competition: Julie Dyer—Oratorical Declamation; Donna Sharp—Prose Reading; Rick Shields—Radio Speaking; Judy Larson—Verse Reading; Mary Phillips—After-dinner Speaking; Sheila Stewart—Comedy Reading; Terri Ostendorf—Serious Reading; and Tim Moore—Extemporaneous Speaking. Julie placed third in her division and Tim received a second place rating, which enabled them to go on to the sectional contest on March 2 at Normal. Aria da Capo, a play written by Edna St. Vincent Millay, was also presented at contest and received fourth place. The members of the cast were Jerry Rodeen, Luwana Tarlton, Bob Frump, Steve Pacey, and Dave Swengel. 17

AFS dinner concert The American Field Service Dinner, sponsored by the Student Council, was held on May 4, 1962. The money raised at the dinner was used to finance the American Field Service program. After the dinner, a spring concert was presented by the Music Department. An all-school party ended the evening, with music provided by the Stage Band. 19
