Foreword Paxon is a small but important part of Jacksonville, the Gateway City to Florida. Pride in our city, in addition to many recent articles in newspapers and magazines concerning its growth and civic improvements, have inspired us to record the progress of both our city and our school in the 1960 Delphian. Looking around us i we see a city in the midst of an era of expansion. Throughout the area the growing expressway forms a network of concrete and steel, which makes any part of this wide-spread metropolis easily accessible. The expressway, the new city-government buildings, the coliseum, the auditorium, and new ofiice and industrial buildings-all are a portion of this growth. Familiar now is the new look of the waterfront and the changing skyline with the beautiful functional architecture of our recently constructed hotels, motels, department stores, and a branch library near the school. Within our school we find numerous things representative of our development and progress. Since becoming a senior high, , .. :r our student enrollment has continuously increased. With additional courses-American government and international relations, physiology, and a fifth semester of algebra-our curriculum is expanding to meet the needs of our students. This year more up-to-date ofiice equipment in the Business Department and new grammar books for all English classes encourage learning and understanding. Instrumental in the smoothly functioning affairs at Paxon is our new full-time counselor who helps students with many of their problems. Changes in construction appear in the form of fire doors and a physical education obstacle course. Soon fwith the recent passage of a gigantic bond issuej there will be increased classroom space, a gymnasium, as well as an auditorium with music facilities. Expansion and improvement are all around us. From our bustling city to the very active environment of our school we End people in varying stages of growth and development. Our 1960 Delphian has attempted to capture some of the achievements of this productive year.
