f- A K .lil ,.,..1. , , Q, ,, ,, ,,-,-- religious and political problems of the past. American youth today should not be swept off its feet, nor seek economic adjustment at the expense of those liberties purchased so dearly and, in this country, cherished so much. I am alarmed, too, by the willingness with which many high school and college students are signing pledges never to take up arms for their country under any conditions w hat- soever. It is true that war is a stupid way of settling disputes, but under some conditions lt may be the only way Nlany w irs haye been unnecessary and many of them h ue not definitely settled what they set out to settle As civilized people we should hue outgrown w ir But I do not bellcxe we sh Lll get llfl of war until we somehow change the he irts 1nd souls of men, and that is a big job md L long Job Practically no one wants w 11 for the sake of war. Few' people would countenance a war of aggression, but I believe that most of us would still fight, pledge or no pledge, to protect our country from invasion. lfVe should yield to none in our hatred of war and in our efforts for peace. But here again, I believe we should make haste slowly. It is our hope that your years in high school have given you the capacity to think sanely, the courage to carry on in these days of un- certainty, and the faith in democratic institu- tions th it will enable x ou to face life s problems w 1th poise and vision Ks y ou leaye the school we shall follow with intein st the attitudes you assume and the suc ce ssc s x ou m tke Our school s chief source ot pudf is in the tchievements of 1tS graduates 4 If: ed I Maryolt, Prznczpal .J-. mxwft -in 'wifx 1951 . . . , . 1 f r , Y , , Y , I 1 , c V y 1 V Y V v 1 ' A 6 1, 2 L V a Q 1 n Y L Y :X Y I 5 L ' I l ' V V .
