FOREWORD This is our 1969 Indian Echoes and we present it to you proudly and with the hope that its pages will spark the light of memory in the coming years. Frequent use of pictures and sketches of the lamp posts has Ijeen made in this yearbook. Amid the movement of life, the significance of simple things is often overlooked. For a period of fifty-five years students of Pawnee High School have passed by the twin lamp posts each school day. These lamp posts, like the spirit of PHS have survived tragedy and destruction. Twice fire has leveled Pawnee High to the ground, but the unity and loyalty of her students like the lamp posts have remained. In 1962 the bases of the lamp posts were rebricked to match the new school building. The lamp posts are positioned to provide light as we enter PHS, but they also brighten the way as we depart. We, the 1969 staff would like to acknowledge the assistance of Mrs. Alyce Foster, Mr. Axel Sandstrom, Mrs. Ruth Harms, Anker Studio, and our advertisers. 2

IN MEMORIAM We the Pawnee High School Class of 1969 do hereby dedicate this, our Indian Echoes, to the memory of Ted Sandidge. Twenty years is a short span in measured time, but Ted accomplished much in two decades. From 1961 -1965, Ted was a contributing part of PHS. His involvement in activities was practically guaranteed, his willingness generated enthusiasm, his contagious laughter won friends, and his attitudes reflected affection and concern for humanity. As achievement cannot be determined in material terms alone, a successful life cannot be judged solely by length. Ted's existence embodied the true meaning of life, and thus, he will always be a part of the living. A Fellow Classmate
