In September, 1956, when we entered the lowliest class of Pawnee High, we were awed by those people called “seniors.” They soon made us realize their position at Pawnee High; especially on Initiation Day. Despite our humiliation of wearing our cut off overalls and special initiation make-up, westillhad a happy and memorable day which ended with a wiener roast, compliments of the seniors. Our Freshman officers were; Billie Sue Clements, Elaine Jenkins, Glen Jessup, Deon Butler. Every Senior Class hasitsshareofmemories--pleasantand unhappy. It was during our sophomore year that we witnessed what seemed to be the impossible. Seeing our high school engulfed in black smoke and flames brought tears to the eyes of many students and also parents who had memories of their high-school days at Pawnee High. But little time slipped by before Pawnee Township had plans started for a new and beautiful High. The class officers for our Sophomore year were; Elaine Jenkins, Linda Estill, Jim Wilson, and Jim Mellinger. We found our Junior year to be an eventful one. We chose our class rings and sponsored the annual Junior-Senior Prom. Everyone found our “Orchids in the Mist theme a truly beautiful one. Our officers; Janice Bailey, Jim Wilson, Janet Gregurich, Evelyn VanGeison, and our helpful advisor, Mrs. Welch, did a fine job with the responsibility of the Prom. In our Senior year the positions as officers were given to; Ronnie Eichen, Janet Gregurich, Linda Estill, and Joe Millburg. Toour very capable advisor, Mrs. Edmundson, we are all indebted for the tremendous help she has given us with this yearbook. This long-awaited year has come and is rapidly slipping away. We are now the seniors,” but not for long. As we don our caps and gowns and march across the stage to the strains of “Pomp and Circumstance,” we’ll realize that this is truly a commencement--another milestone of life beginning, and one ending. The Seniors are dreaming of the opportunities that will be available in the future beyond these doors. This alone challenges us to set our goals high, grasp opportunity, give service. and face life with hearts filled with courage and hope. mo Editor. Becky Nichols Co-Editor.
