This years' School Board again experienced late Monday night meetings as they did their best to maintain the quality of our school. In the fall, the Board completed the modernization of school policy and ordered a new bus for rural students and activity traveling, as well as a van for ‘special purposes'. With a continuing concern of the school budget, the Board directed a questionnaire to the parents and patrons of the Pawnee City School in order to find out where the public would suggest budget cuts in the event that a 0% increase is placed on school spending in the future. In January a decision was made to offer school bus transportation to all students outside of city limits. About that time, an Apple II mini-computer was purchased for students in advanced courses. 4 BROWN OIL COMPANY Self Service Conoco Full Service Texaco Larry Harnisch was new to the Pawnee City School system this year. It Was A cold Friday night when the Pawnee City Indians traveled to Humboldt to capture the Southern Division Conference Championship and they did just that and ended the 1979 season with a 6-3 record. The first half looked bleak as The Cardinals of Humboldt scored a TD in the first quarter and added 12 more points during the second quarter to have the scoreboard read 18-0 at halftime. Less than 2 minutes into the third quarter Larry Spier ran around the end for a 30 yard run, putting the Indians on the board. The two point conversion failed and the Cardinals now led 18-6. Nine seconds into the fourth quarter Larry Spier intercepted a pass and ran 25 yards to give the Indians their first lead of the game at 20-18. The two point conversions was missed. The Indian defense held the margin to win 20-18 and to be the 1979 Southern Division Galaxy Champions.
