ff .S N Jljf h Hhl agfio In the fall of 1952 our powerful ship, Education, with thirty-four Freshies aboard, started out on a long journey with John Barr as captain and Gary Vrtiska, Ferdie F riedly and Gerald McCall as co-captains, over untried seas bound for the port of Knowledge, Scarcely were we out of sight of land when some could no longer endure the Algebraic dinners or daily Latin lunches and took to the briny waters, while others recovered from their sea-sickness and exhibited talent in music and athletics. Our first stop was Sophomore Island, one-fourth of the journey complete. Here we bade our brave captain and co-captains farewell and Gerald McCall stepped aboard to direct the thirty-two pilgrims onward with Barbara Vrtiska, Jane Hess and John Barr as his co-captains, Our sailing was smooth until a series of Geometric storms befell our pathway. The light was dim, and we all but lost a few in the darkness. After many hard days at sea, when our little craft was tossed and lashed by the waves, we finally reached Junior Rock with thirty members still aboard. Here at the village Biology with Roxanne Boren and her assistants Marjorie Peckham, Glenda Allison, Judy Hess and FerdieFriedly, we learned how to cut up grasshoppers and worms, which we found very exciting! We also learned chocolate worms were good eating. Finally, led by F erdie Friedly and helpers Robert Snyder, David Flanagin, Richard Booth, Marjorie Peckham, and Gerald McCall, we anchored at Senior Year, a large island off the coast of College The journey was complete for some, while others would continue to sail for College, Yes, Senior Year is complete and each must be his own captain as he sets sail on the sea of life. xl -JJ 4 i ,V ,if 4
