For ten years, Mr. Kegel also served the school as assistant principal and director of the club program, devoting much of his time to these activities. He will always remain among the fondest memories of those students whose privilege it has been to have associated with him. ADMINISTRATION The students of Paulsboro High School are proud to welcome as our r new Superintendent of Schools, Mr. John Bodnarik. He and Mr. Creamer have done a fine job in their adminis- nf trative positions, and to them we give our thanks. 4 To Mr. Lazevnick, who has also done an outstanding job as Assistant Prin- cipal, we extend our gratitude. This statement, made more than two thousand years ago, still holds true today as we have well discovered. Throughout our high school days it has become more evident with each passing year. But let us now go back a few years in our own history to September, 1956, the beginning of a new experience as freshmen at Paulsboro High School. It took us a while to become adjusted to the new surroundings, but under the guidance of our homeroom teachers and advisors, we eventually became a part of P.H.S. The first big event on the agenda was the Freshman-Sophomore Recep- tion. Enjoying this, our fancy then turned to politics, and we chose our class officers. Wayne Myers was elected President, Judy Cassel, Vice- President, Bonnie Kamman, Secretary, and Nick Duca, Treasurer. Through this experience, we attempted to gain a concept of democracy and the responsibilities which accompany positions of leadership. Soon afterward, the Freshman Assembly was presented. Under the direction of Miss Carlin, this lively variety show proved to be a success. Academically, the road was found somewhat more difficult, but employ- ing perseverance and determination, we became full-fledged sophomores. Being, perhaps, a little wiser , we began by returning the compliment and giving the freshmen a reception with Wayne Myers amiably serving as master of ceremonies. The magazine drive, supervised by Miss Vonada, occupied most of our time at the beginning of the year. We eventually finished with a total sales of S5,400, Jerry Delamater of 207 being high salesman. Having completed this project, we elected our class officers. They were: Nick Duca, President, Bonnie Kamman, Vice President, Eleanor Leone, Secretary, and Alice Eiden, Treasurer. Our sophomore year rapidly drew to a close, and on the whole was a successful one. We were just beginning to form an idea of what our aim in life might be. In the next two years this would steadily crystallize and finally come to manifest itself. Yes, we were now upperclassmen. As juniors we began to seriously consider our future plans, and, perhaps, to think for ourselves a little more clearly than before. Many of us learned what hard work was, and, as we look back, are rather inclined to believe that it was all worthwhile. We began by choosing our class oiiicers: Nick Duca, President, Mary Furnari, Vice-President, Eleanor Leone, Secretary, -and Alice Eiden, Treasurer. As the year moved on, we presented the Junior Assembly and, of course, received what we had long been waiting for, our class rings. Later, several of our outstanding scholars gained admission to the National Honor Society, one of the highest honors a student can receive at P.H.S. Admission is dependent upon those high qualities of scholar- ship, character, and leadership, and we certainly commend these students for their accomplishment. Michael McGlincy was elected President of the Society and led the group through 1959-60. Finally, came an experience which will never be forgotten, our first prom. With A Tropical Paradise as the theme, members of the Class of '60 worked hard to make it a success, which it was. This also marked 'the second successful year of the After-Prom Party. Certainly, this will live in the hearts of us all as the summit of our junior year. . In addition, Mike McGlincy and Bill Barnaby were ,chosen delegates to the American Legions Boys' State, and Rita Centofanti and Ann Sloan, delegates to Girls' State. Many of our classmates also took part in the school play, The Remark- able Incident at Carsofrfs Corners. Thus, our experience as Juniors came to an end. We then entered upon the peak of our endeavors at P.H.S., our senior year. As seniors We inherited many responsibilities, including that of leadership. At times the task was difficult, but we eventually found our efforts rewarded and pro- ceeded to make this year the most memorable one of all. After an exciting campaign, John DeAngelo became Class President, with Bonnie Kamman, Jane D'Ambrosio, and Eleanor Leone, Vice Presi- dent, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively. Also, Irving Gray took office as President of the Student Council. Our thoughts then turned to selling Christmas cards, and that we did! Under the supervision of Mrs. Daniels, total sales amounted to S10,000, an all time high. Diane Drummond and Mike McGlincy were chosen co-editors of the Pegasus, and Jerry Delamater was elected to edit our school paper, the Paulsentinel, for 1959-60. We were then honored by having three students, Mary Ann Sigler, Mike McGlincy, and John Fitzgerald, receive letters of commendation for outstanding performances in the National Merit Examination. The yuletide season was merrily celebrated by a sparkling event, the Senior Crystal Christmas Dance. We all, assuredly, had a wonderful time. February was highlighted by the school play, in which many members of the Senior Class participated. Stage Door, a comedy-drama under the direction of Mrs. Bordner, was enjoyed by all. Yes, our senior year was filled with many exciting and memorable events. Among them, of course, was the Washington trip. It was an educational and, beyond a doubt, enjoyable experience. We had worked hard toward the trip, and certainly were not disappointed. In May, the Junior Class gave us a prom, an event never to be forgotten. l Then came the most memorable one of all-graduation. This was the wonderful climax of our efforts, trials, and triumphs at P.H.S. Being one of the largest graduating classes in the history of our school, we sincerely hope that, in some way, we have contributed to its betterment. Each of us has found his own special goal and, in the years to come, will seek its fulfillment. Thus, to each other, We wish success and happiness. To the underclassmen, we bid a fond farewell. We have learned much throughout these short years, only to discover that we have barely touched the surface. But through our efforts and the efforts of others, we have all experienced That noblest pleasure-the joy of understanding. I4--I -in .IOHN DEANGELO BONNIE KAMMAN President Vizw-I7v'z's1'rIm1t ,M A-. The Junior Class elected Glenn Fish as their President. Joan Reichert was elected Vice-President. Lorraine Ric- cobono and Connie DiBona were re-elected to executive positions as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Next year, we feel confident that the true ambition and great talent of this class will provide our school with outstanding leaders as they take the final steps leading to their long-awaited graduation. as HOMEROOM 104 ROW l: M. We sincerely hope everyone will enjoy the 960 Pegasus. - ll BUSINESS Each member of the staff was responsible for the collection of money from at least one under- classman homeroom for the. payment of per- sonal yearbooks of these underclassmen. It was the job of the chairman of the staff to take charge of daily receipts. The business staif contacted local merchants to secure advertisements. Miss Weber was the advisor of the business staff and the members wish to express their thanks for her assistance. PEGASUS BUSINESS STAFF ROW 1: D. Bennetch, M. Bell, P. Dowdy, B. Beckett, J. ATIO AL HO OR UCIETY To be a member of the National Honor Society is one of the greatest honors a student may obtain in our high school. Every year a number of juniors are eligible to be a member by having an average of 8521 or better. These names are submitted to the teachers, who in turn choose the members according to the qualities of leadership, character, scholarship, and service. If a student isn't chosen during his junior year he may still be chosen in his senior year. We heartily suggest to the underclassmen to study hard and develop into a good student. This is not said only so you may be a member of this society, but that you may also exemplify the qualities which make a successful person. OFFICERS IJ. Buchalski, Secretary, P. S., with Miss Madciff serving as advisor, completed another active year. As in the past, the Council supervised the selling of book covers, folios, and football programs. In addition, ofiicers and representatives, including President Irving Gray, attended the South Jersey Federation of Student Councils Conference in Atlantic City, and the N. J. A. H. S. C. Conference at Rutgers University. Delegates discussed the problems of student government and attempted to procure ideas which would improve our own government. It was generally agreed that greater partic- ipation and interest on the part of the student body would ac- complish this end. In November, the Council cast its vote for the coveted Brooks- Irvine Sportsmanship Award. This was followed by the Christmas decoration contest, with rooms 104 and 4 winning the upperclass and freshmen awards, respectively. February was highlighted by the annual Valentine Dance which proved, as usual, to be successful. Paulsboro was also ably represented at the Spring Conference held in Trenton. Student Council officers for this year are: Irving Gray, Presi- dent, Judy Swed, Vice-President, Sheryl Swed, Recording Secre- tary, Glenn Fish, Corresponding Secretary, and Joann Mercantino, Treasurer. FOOTB LL Head coach, Richard Ridinger, came through with another winning' season for Paulsboro, by coaching The Red Raiders on to victory, through a hard fought season. Even though we didn't repeat as champions, the players showed fine determination and winning spirit. Many of the newspapers quoted a gloomy forecast for our Big Red , but through their skill and determination, our boys showed them they were wrong. Some of our players were bestowed with honors. Wayne Myers received first team selection for All Colonial Conference. He also received honorable mention for All S. J. Group III Team. Gene Smalley and Joe Tir- pack received honorable mention for All Colonial Conference. This year our record consisted of five wins and four losses. VARSITY FOOTBALL P.H.S.
