Curl To the memory of Mr, Paul R. Ctrl, wlw servetl willingly and lluth' fully :is our supervising pr1nc1p.tl for htteen years, we lovingly Llcclicate this fifteenth edition of the Pegasus. Mr. Carl. Al gr.utlu.tte of XVcst Point, served his country in the Army until he was forced to retire lmecause of ill health. However, he continued to serye his country sts .tn educator until his dearth. He took an active interest in eLlue.ition.il and civic org.ini:.1t1ons throughout the county and state. His diligence :intl friendly manner contrihutecl greatly in making our high school days happy ones. Mr, Ctrl died in l'.1ulshoro on September 10, 1951, 5 f' , ,r llAlllRS WHII lillllll The succes of the entire system depended upon the attitude and energy of the ruling body, the nine citizens elected to the school hoard. Giving unselnshly of time and effort, without Hnancial return, these men have heen the faithful sponsors of education in Paulshoro. By visiting the school, hy attending plays, games, dances, commencement, and other school activities, the hoard has shown a friendly interest in the life ofthe school. The hoard has demonstrated the American principle of community participation in local affairs. They have wel' comed patrons and employees to discussion of problems of common interest. Enthusiastically, they supported the Iamboree, Paulshoro's Know Your Neighhorn program. Splendid cooperation hetween the hoard and the administrative ofhcers of the system has set an example of loyalty and understanding for faculty and students. As far as possihle, people having the same course were placed in the same rooms, 106 was made up of college preparatory stu' dents. 203, commercial: and the other rooms. general. Friendly rivalry was carried on when projects were planned. Ticket sales, Christmas card sales, clean'up campaigns, Red Cross drives, homeroom decoration contests-all gave the individual rooms a stimulus for group loyalty. The memhers of 106 were tireless and successful in their attempt to win the Christmas decoration competition sponsored hy the Student Council. Mr. Klose's room was the center for the collection of funds, for he acted as Hnancial adviser for the class: Mrs. Ward's was the Christmas card distribuf tion point: and Mrs. Daniel's was the yearbook room. Cahill This class will be remembered for its great perf formance, My Friend Irma. Miss Breslin felt rewarded for the long hours spent in practice when the play proved a great success. The Autumn Serenade, the junior dance, almost equalled the juniorfSenior Prom in the quality of the music and decorations. Wayne Fish and Fred Pettit were cofchairmen of the decoration committee. Dan I'Ianna's orchestra furnished the music. As sophomores, this class surpassed all others in magazine sales. Their record has not been broken. In May, the class of '53 gave their annual assembly. They maintained the good reputation they received from their unusual freshman program. In that first year they had produced an Arthur Godfrey television program, which was enthusiastically received. Their sophomore Easter assembly had been likewise a creditable program. Harry Hurst received the coveted honor of being elected captain of the high school football team for the year '52f'53. The record of this class over the past three years has proved that they will be the able leaders of the students of P. H. S. in 1952953. Bernardino Standing: D. Lewoc, D. Miskofsky, M. Rickert, N. Beck This was the largest freshman class in the history of the school. lt required eight rooms to accommodate them. Their homeroom teachers were Miss Andrews, Miss Breslin, Miss Margaret Carlin, Miss Nancy Carlin, Mr. Corrado, Miss Kelly, Mrs, Peterman, and Mrs. Rosen. The upperclassmen looked with interest and admiraf tion at a prizefwinning safety poster made by Delores DeFrank. Other memhers of the class were winners of football tickets in the poster contest sponsored hy the Boys' Varsity Cluh. The sophomores called this class excellent guests. They seemed very appreciative of the reception given for them. The freshman foothall team and the girls' freshman haskethall team were ahle and enthusiastic. In mid'March there was a memorable assembly hy this new group. It was plain that a worthy section had heen added to our school. , -QN pri yr 'v ww Q-w bv 'Q iv 4- ,,, sv 5 Q w 'A Adams Beverly Brarmn 1 Brune r W Campbell Dldamo Ecre! This was a wonderful year the first in its history that the school won the undisputed South Jersey Group Three Championship. They received the first trophy avx arded by the Woodbury Daily Times to the Gloucester County Champions. They won their first seven games showing marked power, Then came the big test: Paulsboro met the rival Woodbury team also undefeated. Everyone in the countryside knows the story of Paulsboros 14fO victory and the final triumph of the Thanksgiving Day game. The entire community congratulated the team and the coaches. They were joined by the band, majorettes, and color guard who gave their full support: the cheerleaders with their enthusiastic spiritg and the student body adding the allfimportant element, cooperation. This year left to future teams the shining example of the boys of '51, who gave P. H. S. the team with the best defensive record in South jersey. mi -iii William Godfrey ohn Hoover o.eph Duca Rafton Wilson BASKHBAH . . . ever read te guard and defend FIRST ROXY: Mr. Rum, R, Beckett BOYS' BASKETBALL. The band made a striking impression at the football games. The band and the choral groups joined to produce two Hne concerts: one at Christmas and one in the spring. The orchestra provided the music for the plays and special assemblies. Two members of our hand, John Edl and Bill Schnell were accepted hy the South Jersey Band. The chorus numbered over two hundred. This group sang beautifully in the assemblies during the holiday seasons. ROBED CHOIR FIRST Rfjuli yy, Zdlv. S, Billie, L. johnson, R. Benrenuto M. Bay, B. Hmm, L, MeCanley, C. Titus, Georgiana, B.
