Ddvc Dcverb CLASS HISTORY We entered high school in 1954 as freshmen determined to prove ourselves in the four years to come. To guide us through the first year we chose John Mohr, Presidentg Frank Ybarra, Vice-Presidentg Gaynell ller, Secretaryg Janice Black, Treasurer: and David Devers, Student Council Representative. For our class activity, we held a hay ride and a skating party, With one never-to-be-forgotten year behind us we entered our sophomore year and elected the following officers: President, John Mohrg Vice-President, Gaynell Iler, Secretary-Treasurer, Alice Thomas, and Student Council Representative, David Devers. For activities that year we had a party and a dance. The junior year found us with much work ahead of us and more activities. In an effort to increase our class treasury, we sold concessions at the football and basketball games, sponsored the Homecoming Dance with the theme of Victory Row, ran the candy stand at noon and sold foam rubber slippers. That year the concessions stand at the football field burned down and took with it all profits. Because of this misfortune, we knew that we would have to double our efforts in order to build up our finances. One of the main events of the year was our class play, Dear Ruth, which turned out to be a big success. Officers that year were: President, John Mohr, Vice-President, Steve Diettrichg Sec- retary, Alice Thomasg Treasurer, Laurel LaFountain5 Student Council Representative, David Devers, and Business Manager, John Stoller. The climax of this exciting year was the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. The banquet, carried out in the theme of Fairy- Land Romance, was served by boys and girls from the freshman class, portraying fairies and elves. Following the banquet we held our prom in the high school gymnasium which was decorated to follow the theme of fairyland. There we danced to soft music under a ceiling of gold stars. Thus, ended our junior year. In 1957 we entered our final year full of hopes and plans. To carry out these plans we chose Veronica Santo, Presidentg Steve Diettrich, Vice-President, Alice Thomas, Sec- retary: Laurel LaFountain, Treasurerg and David Devers, Student Council Represent- ative. The project of the year was to raise money for our class trip. In order to give each person a chance to help in this matter, the officers of the class assigned each class member to at least one committee. This proved to be very successful as we progressed through the school year. In deciding upon the place to which the class would make their trip, there arose quite a controversy. Formerly, classes had gone to New York. When finally put to a vote, it was decided that we would go to Washington, D. C. Our main means of raising money was our magazine campaign, which was quite a success, for we went above and beyond our goal of 52500. In order to get as many subscriptions as pos- sible, the class was divided into three teams to create competition. A party was then held in honor of the team which had sold the most magazine subscriptions. The class thoroughly enjoyed this campaign. We also held bake-sales, car-washes, sold mono- grammed cushions at the football games, sponsored the Valentine Dance and presented our class play, Take Care of My Little Girl. The play was well received by young and old alike and was a great help in boosting our finances. We proved our classes athletic ability when the Senior Girls' team won the girls' basketball tournament and the Senior Boys' team won both the boys' volleyball and basketball tournaments. All in all, our sen- ior year was very crowded with a wide variety of activities. Commencement time was soon upon us. We found that this was a time of mixed emo- tionsg of happiness, for we had at last achieved the goal for which we had worked so longg of sadness, for we regretted to leave behind the happy memories and acquaintances of our high school days. We, the class of 1958, leave with the hope that at least in some small way we have been a tribute to our school and will continue to be as such in the future. We know that the passing of time will never dim the memories of Paulding High which will resound like echos throughout our entire lives. 8 OUR CLASS RING CLASS MOTTO: Less than our best is failure. UNTOR ARSITY The Paulding Junior High enjoyed a very successful season under the guidance of Coach Wynn Witmer. The JV powerhouse initiated Antwerp as their first vic- tims and continued to roll over such foes as Defiance, Farmer, Hicksville, Edger- ton, Payne, Melrose, and Grover Hill. During the course of the season, the JV Panthers also held the distinction of winning the Hicksville Invitational Tournament and the Paulding County Tourna- ment. Paulding's JV had another good year in football, playing three games and winning all easily. The fourth game was cancelled due to the Asiatic flu epidemic. During the course of the football season, Coach Jerry Rensberger's crew went undefeated and untied in their three pigskin battles. The Panthers amazed fans by rack- ing up 80 points and holding their op- ponents scoreless. Paulding also gathered 64 first downs, while holding their foes to a mere seven. ,A Clockwise: Joan DeMuth, Jane Crabill Kristy Weible, Sally Whirrett, Betty Jean Seslar, and Lonna Dangler.
