We hope it will serve as a reminder, in the years to come, for the forgotten activities and renew the faces you once knew. May it be one of your high school treasuresg the school which will help you find your position in life. -THE ANNUAL STAFF Published by the SENIOR CLASS OF 1949 PAULDING HIGH SCHOOL Page 1 Page 'Ufnawlecfge M pawn Knowledge is power-but power to transform, to destroy, to create, or to lay waste? To set knowledge apart from purpose is to miss the reason for its develop- ment and accumulation. There is no more justification for commending knowledge as power than there is for praising habit as power, or skill as power, or attitude as power. These have power only with respest to the purposes they serve and the out- comes they produce. . f. ez. t. The senior class of 1949 takes great pleasure in the dedication of the Echo to Miss Anna. Powers. After forty years of public service in and around Paulding school has enabled her to start the molding ,of a. great number of first grade pupils lives. We take our hats off to a lady who has lived well, laughed often, and loved muchg who has loved little children and accomplished her taskg who left the world better than she found it. Jfziilaay 1949 We have always considered ourselves to be one of the most active classes in high school, though we have to admit that we are rather money-minded. During our. high school career we sold pencils and school pennants. During our junior year we we handled the concessions at football and basketball games. Miss Russell, our advisor, and Kenneth Woodring, our president, have served our class all four years. The class has had a girls' ensemble since the freshman year. Our Junior class play, A Credit To The Family , was considered Cat least by usb to be a success. . Our class officers for 1949 are as follows: Kenneth Woodring, Presidentg Mari- lyn Mouser, Vice-President: Marjorie Kauser, Secretary: Robert Whirrett, Treasurer: Marilyn Gillen, Russell Hill, Student Council: Willis Stoller, Daris Reinhart, Student Council At Large. The class hopes to transmit this school, not less, but better, greater, and more horu'oable than it was transmitted to us in future years to come. - Marjorie Kauser Class Secretary Page '13 , ,1, 1 ff., I 1 lbflfl f j'!p V X ,, . As usual, we got into the right class at the wrong time. After we gathered our wits about us we came to the conclusion that we had better start earning money for the Junior-Senior banquet, so we sponsored scrap drives and paid our class dues. In our Sophomore year we used practically' all of our small fund on the Fresh- man initiation. We elected Mr. Hadley as our class adviser for the second time. We again sponsored scrap drives and class dues to raise money. During the county basketball tournament we had a check room which proved to be very successful. We have now reached the year of sleepless nights and long working hours. We are heading for the last round up. Mr. Lutz, our adviser, and the entire class are handling all concessions at the football and basketball games. Our crowning achievement of the year was our class play, Here We Go Again. Our class is rather small and, therefore, everyone in the class was in some way con- nected with the play. ' , In May the Seniors may look forward to one of the best Junior-Senior banquets ever sponsored in Paulding High School. Seniors we hope you appreciate us! Her sister, Lois iDeanne Allshousei is accompanied home from college by her roommate, Elaine, 4Mari1yn Kershner? and the latter's brother, Biff Jordon, tBob Flintb. To save Lois's romance with Lee .Summers 4Paul Hillb Pigeon makes a play for Biff herself. Her friend, Midge, fNancy Buchanani aids her in her attempt to be attractive by fixing her hair with the famous Mr. Kantlebaum's Kurlers' Biff enlists the aid of Mrs. Parker QMonica Reinharth and Janie, the kid sister 1Patsy Rifei in never letting him be alone with Lois, by announcing that he is already engaged to the town's new librarian, Virginia Anderson fPhyllis Riggenbachi. Pigeon, in desperation, tries to win Biff by another method, insousiance. Even that fails. Lottie Stimson QGe1iah Collinsl takes her'order to Mr. Parker's competitor in the feed and grain business. The bank is pressing Mr. Parker' for payment on his notes. Wilbur Jennings, boy friend of Pigeon, tBill Bashoreb carries home news of the Parkers' opening a tea shop in their home. His mother, Cassie Jennings, CDe- lores Stollerb and Abbie Motherwell, tIsabel Rakonzal call personally to com- miserate with Mrs. Parker. In the conclusion one of Pigeon's schemes works re- sulting in Lottie Stimson returning her business. Wilbur, in his final effort to retain Pigeon's affections copies Biff's dress and habit of smoking a pipe, only to discover that Pigeon likes him just as he is. Pigeon Parker ...... THE MORE THE MERRIER Directed by Mrs. Inez Hemlein A Jimmie iJim Rulmanl and Hank iBill Paulus? have sent for a wrestling course. They are just practicing some of the holds with the idea of returning the manual without payment. Jimmie and his sisters, Barbara CMarjorie Kauserl and Ellie . iDoris Reinhartb are left to carry on at home while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hunt,- er CRalph Reed and Florice Johnson? go to their college reunion. Fearing legal ac- tion from Judge Washburn CWillis Stollerhl because of threatening letters with re- gard to the unpaid course, the boys try to raise money quickly and try their luck at raising frogs. Barbara has fallen for the Judge's visiting nephew, Jerry iJames Morisylg but then, so has Gloria Greene Cvirginia Stahll who is interested in all eligible new males. Goaded on by her mother iMarilyn Mouserl, Gloria gives a party .to which all but Hank are invited. This infuriated Jim and his tomboy friend, Jiffy tMarilyn Gillenl so, that they .decided to start a Teen Town in Hills- boro and have a party of their own on the same night as Gloria's party. But such things cost money which they plan to raise by holding an auction sale. Mother's prized antique bedwarmer is auctioned off Cto Mrs. Greene, of all personsl as well as Miss Sheldon's KI-Ielen Goodenoughl suitcase. Jimmy forgot to mail the letter advising her of the postponed date on which she was to address Mother's club. The youngsters are aided in their endeavors by the giggling Louise Nash 4Julianne Minckl, the athletic Dot lLouise Workmanl and the practical joker, Herb Allen fRay Goyingsl. ' At the crucial moment, father and mother return and salvage their possessions. Judge Washburn is greatly impressed with the undertaking of the youth of his town and promises them that they shall see their dream of Teen Town realized. TIFFIN, OHIO PHONE 2439 I've noticed when a fellar croaks, no matter what he's been- A saintly fellow, or one whose soul is deeply rotted in sin, His friends forget the rotten words they spoke but yesterday and now they find a bunch of pretty words to say. I fancy when I go to rest, some one will bring to light, Some kindly word or deed long buried out of sight, But if its just the same to you, you give to me instead Your boast while I'm living, do your knocking when I'm dead. Don't save all your kisses to imprint upon my marble brow, While countless slurs are hurled upon me now, Don't save your energy to carve upon my stone, Just say one kind word to me while I am here alone. What do I care if when I'm dead in the Paulding Press Gives me a write-up, in mourning border set? So, kindly give me your boasts while I'm living, ' Do your knocking when I'm dead. It may be nice when you are dead to have folks talk so. To have the flowers come in loads from friends you know, It may be nice to have all these things from those you leave behind, But just as far as I'm concerned I really do not mind. For I'm quite alive and well today, and while I linger here. Give me a helping hand at times, give me a word of cheer, Don't wait until death, and I've died a nervous wreck, For I'm no judge of flowers,-when I've cashed in my last check. MR. AND MRS.
